Williamston Mayor Mack Durham Durham and dancing partner Lisa Burns will be among local celebrity dancers participating in the 9th Annual Dancing for Our Heroes being held Friday, April 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Center of Anderson.

Durham Dancing

Presented by the Rotary Club of Greater Anderson, it’s modeled after the popular ABC TV show Dancing with the Stars. It will raise money for eight local charities as well as PolioPlus, the Rotary Foundation’s initiative to eradicate polio as a crippling disease world-wide. Durham and Burns will be dancing for Anderson Interfaith Ministries (AIM).

AIM is a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks to improve the lives of those in our community who are struggling by providing long-term solutions by coupling emergency assistance with positive accountability and opportunities for quality of life improvements through education and employment. AIM’s programs seek to provide clients a “hand up” rather than a “hand out.”

Durham said, “I need your help in doing something good for our community! I have been asked to serve as one of ten local celebrity dancers competing in “Dancing for our Heroes VII.”

“The performances will be scored by a panel of judges. As I have no dance experience, so there isn’t much hope of me winning the competition. However, I can be chosen as the winner of the People’s Choice Award, which is based on the amount of money I raise for my represented charity (AIM).”

Durham is asking local residents to help with his effort by making a financial contribution to Anderson Interfaith Ministries.

“AIM is a county-wide organization and this year they are working in partnership with our local Williamston HOPE program,” Durham said. “HOPE is Helping Others Pursue Excellence.Every dollar you donate will go directly to AIM, so it can change the lives of families in need. This can have a real and positive impact on local families.”

Anyone intereseted in helping can contribute by mailing a check to Anderson Interfaith Ministries, P.O. Box 1136, Anderson, SC 29622. In the memo line of your check, please put HOPE, Durham’s name or “Dancing for Our Heroes.”

Donations may also be made by credit card by visiting www.aimcharity.org and clicking the “donate” button or go to https://www.crowdrise.com/DancingForOurHeroes-AIM to donate right now. Any amont is appreciated and contribution are completely tax deductible.

Because AIM is a Community Development Corporation, donations in the amount of $250.00 or greater receive a 33% tax credit for your state liability. My goal is to raise$25,000 for AIM through this campaign. Any amount you can give is helpful and very much appreciated by the staff and Board members for AIM.

“I encourage you to attend the Dancing for our Heroes event on Friday night, April 17th to watch me dance and to celebrate the many great charities we have in our community,” Durham said. “They will also be taking up donations that evening, so you may donate additionally the night of the event. This event is always a lot of fun – there will be dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and more!
