Former Pelzer Postmaster William Chamblee, 86, died from “traumatic asphyxia” Friday after a mower he was working on fell and trapped him under it, according to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown. McCown said Chamblee was trying to replace the blade and had the mower hooked to a tractor with a chain, which gave way allowing the mower to fall on him.

Emergency workers were dispatched to Chamblee’s home on Crestview Road just after 5 p.m. on Friday where they found Chamblee trapped under the mower. McCown estimated Chamblee was trapped under the mower for over an hour. He was pronounced dead at 6:17 p.m.
