VENEZUELA REID BILLUPS

Venezuela Reid Billups, 90, of Williamston, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Pearlie Thompson Reid and Arthur Reid Sr.

She was retired from Anderson County School District Two and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. James G. Billups.

Surviving are two sons, James A. Billups and Gary A. Billups; four daughters, Ruthena B. Johnson, Gwendolyn B. Owens, Linda C. Hamby, and Drucilla B. Perry; two brothers, Arthur Reid Jr. and Marcus Reid; one sister, Hazel R. Mattison; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

EVELYN ‘LYNN’ POWELL

Evelyn Madolyn Robinson “Lynn” Powell, 86, of Piedmont, widow of Jessie James Powell, died Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Terrell and Annie Mae Burgess Robinson. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include, daughters, Emily Sue Haynes of Georgia, Peggy Joyce Redd  of Piedmont; sons, Lloyd Thomas Powell of Piedmont, Ernest Eugene Davis of Greenville, Bobby Davis; sister, Thelma Miller; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 29, in the chapel of  Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JESSE B. KYLE, SR.

Jesse B. Kyle, Sr., 77, of Simpsonville, husband of Elaine Christine Lewis Kyle, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

Born in Sykes, TN, he was a son of the late John Millard and Ruby Williams Kyle. He retired from Sears Roebuck and served on the Colorado Springs Police Force for thirteen years. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Sheree Lee Brennan of Round Lake Beach, IL, Sandra D. Losaw of Honea Path and Dee Ann Janulis of Williamston; son, John R. Kyle of Honea Path; brothers, Robert J. Kyle of Murfreesboro, TN, Glen Dale Kyle of Springfield, TN and Benny Kyle of Goodlettsville, TN; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 25 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial was at Bethany Baptist Church, Belton.

JERRY TYLE VICKERY

Jerry Tyle Vickery, Sr., 74, of Seneca, died July 23, 2015.

He was the son of the late Emma Elsie White and Judson Tyle Vickery. He is survived by his wife, Jo Shirley Vickery; three children; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Born in Anderson and reared in Williamston, he was a pharmacist and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 25 at Trinity Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Trinity Baptist Church.

MIRIAM SMITH

Miriam King Smith, 91, of Williamston, widow of Dr. Dwight H. Smith, died Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Born in Bishopville, she was a daughter of the late Wiley Clifford and Pauline Best King. A retired hospital administrator with Williamston Hospital, she was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Williamston Garden Club.

Mrs. Smith attended Columbia College. She was the 1941 “Miss South Carolina” and competed in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City where she was featured along with other contestants on the cover of LIFE Magazine.

Survivors include, sons, Preston Smith (Gayle) of Houston, TX, Dwight H. Smith, Jr. (Rita) of Greenville, King Smith (Beverly) of Piedmont; daughters, Brende Waddell (John) of Spartanburg, Judy Palmer of Lake Waccamaw, NC; 11 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brother, Wylie Brent King and sister, Jennie Louise Lee.

The family wishes to thank Mary Smith and her staff for their devotion and loving care.

Visitation was held Tuesday, from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 11:00 a.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was held at Travis Cemetery in Saluda.

JAMES TIMOTHY SLICE

James Timothy Slice, 58, of 31 Weeping Willow Rd, Piedmont passed away in his home July 25, 2015.

Born in Columbia SC, he was the son of the late David and Betty Slice.

Surviving are his son Chris Slice and daughter Katie Goodnough. Grandchildren Jacob, Julia, Aiden Slice and Alex Goodnough; brother David Slice of Iva. He was preceded in death by his brother Ricky Slice.

Memorial remembrance will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 at the Pelzer Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers the family has designated Jackie McDowell for memorial contributions to PO Box 9152 Greenville SC 29604.

STEVEN DAVIS

Steven “Stevie” Davis, 48, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at his home.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Herman Davis and the late Uldine Davis. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Jeanne Davis; children, Kelly Marie Hedrick and Matthew Steven Davis; siblings, Thelma Davis, Robbie Davis, John Davis, and Jackie Keaton.

The Graveside Service was held on Monday, July 27 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

REV. RAYMON KENNEDY

BELTON—Rev. Raymon Kennedy, 88, widower of Lewanna Kennedy,  went to his long awaited heavenly home on Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

He was twice married, first to the late Lucille Kennedy.

He proudly served his country as a Marine in WWII.  Soon after giving his heart to Jesus, he was called to preach.  Rev. Kennedy pastored for over 50 years in the Church of God and Assembly of God.

Survivors include children, Brenda Haley (Bob) of Columbia, Darrell Kennedy (Sandy) of Fort Worth, TX, Cynthia Beddingfield (Billy) of St. Stephens, SC, Kit Kennedy (Bobbie) of Belton and Denise Jean (Arif) of Belton;  seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Ware Place Church of God. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
