RICHARD TAYLOR

Richard Charles Taylor, 67, of Piedmont, husband of Linda Matheson Taylor, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at his home.

Born in Oconee, he was a son of the late Robert Charles and Lois Louise Blackwell Taylor.  He was formerly employed with the Pickens Country Club and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include sons, Chuck Taylor of Piedmont and Rick Taylor of Greer; daughter, Tamara Cantrell of Piedmont; sisters, Bobbie Smith of Central, Linda Crowe of Barstow, CA, MaryAlice Wilson of West Union; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 21, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

L. DONALD NEWTON

Luther Donald “Don” Newton, 86, of Townville, husband of Lillie Vaughn Newton, died, Saturday, August 15, 2015 in Anderson.

Born in Red Springs, NC, he was a son of Perry Blackshear and Geneva McDaniel Newton.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Townville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are sons, L. Donald Newton, Jr., of Williamston, and Charlie Newton of Anderson; daughters, Donna Partain and Brenda Moseley, both of Anderson; brother, Charles Ellis Newton of Callao, VA; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held August 24 at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

DOROTHY STAFFORD

Dorothy Elizabeth Snider Stafford, 95, of Pelzer, wife of the late Herbert Volta Stafford, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2015.

Born in Spencer, NC, she was the daughter of the late A.P. and Elizabeth Curlee Snider. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

She is survived by son Larry Stafford of the home; daughter, Mrs. James P. Epps of Belton; 3 grandchildren; multiple great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held  Saturday, August 22 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

ALLEN ALVERSON

Dewayne Allen Alverson, 55, of Belton, husband of Debbie Searcy Alverson, died Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Born in Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late Betty Alverson Surett. He was formerly employed with Ingles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Steven Tyler Alverson of the home; sister, Tracy Moore of Greenville; brother, Joe Surett of Greenville.

A visitation was held Saturday, August 22 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage you to enjoy time with your family and treasure the moments together.

BOB LYERLY

Robert Lynn ‘Bob’ Lyerly, 72, of Piedmont, husband of Janet Lanning Lyerly, died August 20, 2015.

Born in Salisbury, NC, he was a son of the late Hugh Ramsey and Fannie Bradshaw Lyerly.

He was a member of Edgewood Church of Christ and was owner of Lyerly Contracting Services.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Mark Lyerly, Jeff Lyerly, and Dovie Blanchard; three grandchildren; one brother, Mike Lyerly; and one sister, Garnette Kluttz.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. at Edgewood Church of Christ.

NANCY HOLT

Nancy Ann Pack Holt, 79, of Piedmont, wife of Lowell Edward Holt, died Sunday, August 23, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Jessie O’thell “J.O.” and Mary Beasley Pack. She retired from Duke Power and was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Joni L. Holt of West Pelzer; son; sister, Vonnie Thomason of Piedmont; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by daughter, Karen Michelle Holt.

A graveside service was held Monday, August 24 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith Cemetery.

‘CHUCK’ CASEY

Charles “Chuck” Glenn Casey, 76, of Williamston, husband of Malinda Bright Casey, died Monday, August 24, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Martin “Booty” Blease and Helen Rainey Casey.

Chuck was retired from 3M and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was also a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Williamston Lions Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Tonya Chandler (Greg) of Belton, Scott Casey of Williamston, Shannon Coker (Chad) of Pelzer; grandchildren, Heather Bannister (Derek), Hannah Leslie, Casey Chandler, Destiny Casey, Brittany Casey, Katlyn Coker, Chanda Coker, Chance Coker; great-grandchildren, Evan Ortiz-Leslie and Lici Vargas; brother, William Truett Casey.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Lorraine Casey.

Visitation was held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The service followed at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CHERYL COBB

WILLIAMSTON – Cheryl Elaine Miller Cobb, 67, wife of Bennie Herndon Cobb Jr., passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Elizabeth Tinsley “Lib” Ford and the late George David Miller. She was a 1966 graduate of Palmetto High School, a member of Williamston First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class. She retired from AnMed Medicus Outpatient Surgery Center.

In addition to her husband of 49 years and her mother of Williamston, she is survived by daughter, Cindy Cobb Bentley; grandchildren, Tyler Watson, Austin Shirley, and Courtney, Caleigh and Chase Bentley; great-grandchild, Braelynn Shirley.

She was predeceased by daughter, Lynn Cobb Watson; step-father, George David Ford; brothers, Mickey and Michael Miller, and Bruce Ford.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 26 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 27 at Williamston First Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Olin Lee Brown, 77, of Piedmont, died Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Robert Henry Cothran, 86, of Pelzer, husband of Dorothy Kellett Cothran, died on Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. Francis Downtown Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Henry Vester and Nannie Sue Gambrell Cothran. He was retired from the Pelzer Post Office and the Kendall Co. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Belton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Robert Wayne Cothran of Fountain Inn and Keith Anthony Cothran of Taylors; daughter, Denise Cothran Mehany of Simpsonville; brothers, Cecil Cothran of Williamston and Wilton Ray Cothran of Pelzer; sister, Nettie Sue Culbertson of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, August 24 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

RUFUS OLIVER SANDERS, SR.

Rufus Oliver Sanders, Sr., 76, of Travelers Rest, died Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late William Rufus and Opal Pauline Fowler Sanders. He retired from Michelin Tire.

Surviving are children, Shirley Vanadore of Liberty, Robbie Ellison of Liberty, Mary Sue Stewart of Piedmont, Rufus Sanders, Jr. of Williston, Wayne Sanders of Barnwell, Billy Sanders of Greenville, Tabitha Sanders of Travelers Rest; sister, Nola Manley of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday in the funeral home chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Piedmont.

CAROLYN P. ARNOLD

Carolyn P. Arnold, of Piedmont, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Greenville Health System.

Funeral service was held Monday, August 24 at Mt. Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Graceland East Memorial Park in Simpsonville.
