The unemployment rate for Anderson County dropped to 5.6% in August according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

“We are pleased to see that, for the fifth consecutive month, more than 83,000 Anderson residents are employed”, said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “We hope that national economic conditions will allow us to sustain and expand upon this record level of employment in the coming quarter. I know our economic development team is working overtime to bring even more high-quality jobs to our community.”

The county’s unemployment rate was measured at 5.9% in July of 2015 and 6.9 % in August of 2014. The report indicated that the local economy added approximately 2,500 jobs over the past 12 months.
