A Williamston man held police at bay for more than two hours after a chase that began in Anderson and ended in Pendleton Sunday afternoon. Steven Ray Smith Jr. 51 of Williamston was arrested after two rounds of tear gas were fired into the truck that he was driving. Pelzer EMS transported Smith to AnMed Health after he was taken into custody. Anderson county sheriff John Skipper said after Smith stopped the vehicle he held his hand to his mouth and head as covered with a towel or rag as though he had a gun.
