MAX HITT, DANNY KEITH MILLER, CARRIE SMITH, DEACON JAMES WESLEY BROWN JR., DANIEL FRANCISCO GAGLIARDI

MAX HITT

Joseph Max Hitt, 72, an Air Force veteran, of Pelzer, died Monday, October 19, 2015.

Born in Greer, he was a son of the late Lawrence H. and Beatrice Strickland Hitt. He was a graduate of Erskine College and Converse College with a M.ED. degree. He taught at Union High School where he was also Director of Adult Education, Carolina High School, and Greenville Technical College. He retired as a college counselor and instructor of Psychology.

A memorial service with military honors was held  on October 27 at Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

DANNY KEITH MILLER

Danny Keith Miller, 49, of Piedmont, died October 16, 2015.

He was predeceased by his mother, Sylvia Miller; father, Larry Miller.

He is survived by siblings, Teresa Dunn, Joey Miller, and Debra Woody.

Funeral services will be held at Augusta Road United Methodist Church in Pelzer on Thursday, October 29. Visitation will be held at 2:15 p.m. in the church followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Greenville Rescue Mission.

CARRIE SMITH

PIEDMONT – Carrie Lou Cooper Smith, 85, wife of 62 years of the late Billy Dock Smith, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Henry Hawkins and Clara Mae Pryor Cooper. She retired from Carolina Rubber Hose Company and was a member of Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by daughter, Donna “Kay” Bartlett and her husband, Russ, of Canon, GA; son, Steve Smith and his wife, Del, of Piedmont; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by daughter, Carrie Jeanette Smith; ten siblings.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Thursday, October 29 at Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

The service will be held at 3:00 pm at the church.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

DEACON JAMES WESLEY BROWN JR.

Deacon James Wesley Brown, Jr., 83, of Greenville, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville.

He was a son of the late James Brown, Sr. and Susie Sullivan Brown, and husband of Geneva Redmond Brown.

He retired from Sears and Roebuck and was retired owner of Brown’s Trucking Company. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Derrick James Brown and Dwayne Garlan of Simpsonville; one daughter, Jayma Kemika Mattison of Greenville; two sisters, Louise Stewart of Piedmont and Ethel Sullivan of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

DANIEL FRANCISCO GAGLIARDI

Daniel Francisco “Dan” Gagliardi, 29, of Piedmont, husband of Summer Hinton Gagliardi, died Friday, October 23, 2015.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ, he was the son of Francisco and Mary Gagliardi.

He was a Police Officer with the City of Wellford and was a member of Newspring Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Sophia Ann and Payton Marie Gagliardi; two sisters, Stacy Nagle and Kristy Lemons.

A private funeral service will be held.
