Thanksgiving Day fatality – Hwy. 17

Wren firefighters along with Pelzer EMS personnel work at the scene of a fatal accident on Thursday morning (Nov. 19). Berry Macks Carlton, 35, of the Wren community was fataly injured when the Mitsubishi Eclipse he was driving ran off Highway 17 near Browning Road, striking several trees.

According to reports, Carlton went to a local pharmacy to pick up some medicine when his car went off the road in a curve around 11:30 a.m.. A witness to the crash told investigators that the Mitsubishi passed other motorists on a double-yellow line and lost control of the car. Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said Carlton and his family were supposed to be eating Thanksgiving dinner when he returned from the store.
