JIM NEELY

Williamston—Jimmie “Jim” Dowis Neely, 80, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Herman Lee and Nelle Dowis Neely. He was first married to Nannie Haynes Neely and then to Elaine W. Neely, both of whom predeceased him.

Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He retired from Fluor-Daniel as a superintendent, was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church, and attended Big Creek Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW.

Survivors include children, Robin Crawford (Edward), Karen Cochrane (Robbie), both of Williamston; “adopted” son, Freddie Timms; Chris Owens, Tammy Young, Tony Whitlock; brother, Gordon Neely; grandchildren, Chase and Cody Stewart, Amanda Neely, Chris Herren, Chandler Crawford; five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sons, Bobby, Gene, and Steele Neely; brothers, H.L., Joe, and Bob Neely; sister, Evelyn Neely Bryant.

A graveside service was held Saturday, December 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer. The family greeted friends after the service.

MERTIE BOYCE

Pelzer – Mertie Elizabeth Cobb Boyce, 93, wife of Arvin Boyce, Jr., passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Fred Norman and Carrie Etta Woods Cobb.

She was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Jerry W. Boyce of Belton and Terry K. Boyce of Williamston; brother, Rev. Fred N. Cobb of Williamston; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sister, Earlene McKee; brothers, Joe Earl and John Andrew Cobb.

Visitation was from 1:30 – 2:00 Thursday, December 24 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service followed at 2:00 in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at a later date.

BETTY FULLER

Betty Carolyn Hargrove Fuller, 64, of Iva, died Sunday, December 20, 2015.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Floree Moody Hargrove.

Survivors include children, Johnny Fuller of Anderson, Teresa Fuller of Iva, Natalie Scott of Starr, Julie Donald of Pelzer; sister, Nancy Fuller of Anderson; brothers, James and Sammy Hargrove of Anderson; eight grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 23, at Beech Springs Tabernacle, 125 Cooley Bridge Road, Pelzer.

JIMMY CHAPMAN

WILLIAMSTON—Jimmy R. Chapman, 83, went home to be with the Lord Friday, December 18, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late J. Roy and Ida Mae Chapman. A 1950 graduate of Pelzer High School, he was the owner of Chapman’s Grocery in Pelzer during the 50’s and 60’s and Wholesale Tire Service in Anderson. He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church and a devout Christian for 56 years. He was a man full of wisdom that loved the simple things in life. He dearly loved his Lord and family.

Survivors include son, Doug Chapman (Ann) of Williamston; daughter, Pam Jordan (Keith) of Williamston; sisters, Jean Cooley of Honea Path, Dot Looney of Greenville, Linda Bryant of Pelzer; brother, Stanley Chapman of Pelzer; grandchildren, Kelly Bridwell, Cain Chapman, Hagan and Adam Jordan; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, at Whitefield Baptist Church. The funeral followed at 3:00 p.m. at the church. Burial was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank all the churches and his many friends that prayed for God’s will to be done in his time of sickness. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Dr. Michael Bryant of Ninety Six for his care of Daddy.

RAYMOND MOORE, SR.

Raymond Taylor Moore, Sr., 90, of Piedmont, husband of the late Helen Evans Moore, died on Monday, December 21, 2015.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Raymond Waco and Louania Orr Moore. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran, formerly employed by Exxon Mobil Corp. and H&R Block. He was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons, Ricky E. Moore and Raymond T. Moore, Jr. both of Piedmont; sister, Jessie Mae Traynum of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 23 at Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

‘JACK’ HILL

Alfred “Jack” Sanders Hill, 94, of Pelzer, husband of Olivia Scott Hill, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Alfred S. Hill, Sr. and Othella Nelson Hill.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and retired from Fluor-Daniel. He was a member of Oak Hill UMC.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, William “Billy” A. Hill of Darlington; daughter, Susan Hill Gaymon of Pelzer; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at Gray Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 24. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

SALLIE REVELS

Sallie Jo Carroll Revels, 88, of Williamston, widow of Roy Lee Revels, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born in Gadston, AL, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary Lula Haney Carroll. She was a member of Williamston Church of God.

Surviving are six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 29 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

DAN PALMER

James Daniel “Dan” Palmer, 77, of Liberty, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late William Robert and Sally Daniel Palmer.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He retired from Crane Chevrolet.

He is survived by three daughters, Laurie Murphy of Lyman, Jennifer Turner of Piedmont, and Sally Palmer-King of Simpsonville; brother, Edward Palmer of Pennsylvania; sister, Fay Palmer Davis of Florida; ten grandchildren; and former wife, Becky Palmer.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Dec. 27 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

JOYCE GILLESPIE

Thelma Joyce Bratcher Gillespie, 79, of Easley, widow of Charles Wallace Gillespie, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015.

Born in Honea Path, she was a daughter of the late Cliff and Rosetta McClain Bratcher.

She retired as owner of Joyce Sewing and Alterations.

Surviving are daughters, Debbie Gillespie Rutledge of Minneapolis, MN, Cindy Gillespie Watson of Piedmont; son, Clifton Gillespie of the home; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 26 at Gray Mortuary. Burial followed at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

JESSIE MAE GRANT

Jessie Mae Kay Grant, 82, of Townville, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Mae Royster Kay and the late Clifton Kay. She was the widow of Ray Cullen Grant.

She retired from the Manufacturing industry and was a member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Danny Ray Grant of Sandy Springs, and Brian Keith Grant of Townville; two daughters, Gail Grant Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC and Kathy Grant Parker of Anderson; two brothers, Larry Kay of Belton and Jerry Kay of Williamston; sister, Ann Kay Soileau of Anderson; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 28 at Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church, Townville. Interment followed at the Townville Baptist Church Cemetery.

SUSAN GWYNNE HUFFMAN PRUITT

Susan Gwynne Huffman Pruitt, 96, of Belton, widow of Tolliver Wright Pruitt, Jr., died December 23, 2015 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

Born in Belton, she was daughter of the late Francis Byron and W. Antonia Smith Huffman.

She retired from SC Department of Social Services and was a member of Latimer Memorial Methodist Church in Belton.

Surviving are children, Tolliver Wright Pruitt, III of Indian Trail, NC, Richard Huffman Pruitt of Williamston, Connie G. Pruitt Barnwell of Williamston, Michael Alda Pruitt of Seneca, and Susan Ellen Pruitt DeWitt of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held Monday at Latimer Memorial  United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Belton City Cemetery.

MACK LEAGUE, SR.

Bobby Mack League, Sr., 85, of Piedmont, husband of Judy Floyd League, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2015.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Joseph Thomas and Clara Belle Glenn League.

He was retired postmaster of Piedmont and was a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Angela Burke of Williamston; son, Bobby Mack League Jr. of Piedmont; step-son, Eric Shirley of Mauldin; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Piedmont First Baptist Church

Burial followed on Dec. 24 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

GEORGE EDWARD REDMOND

George Redmond, 67, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015 at Pelham Medical Center, Greer.

Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late George and Susie Mae McCullough Redmond.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Tate Redmond of the home; daughters, Kershaundra Redmond and Kimberly Redmond, both of Fountain Inn; son, Vernon Redmond of West Palm Beach, FL; sisters, Edith Redmond, Louise Glenn, JoEllen Miller, and Kirby Keita, all of Greenville; brothers, Robert Redmond of Piedmont, and John Redmond of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 21 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

THELMA R. FLETCHER

Thelma Reeves Fletcher, 76, of Easley, wife of the late Richard B. Fletcher, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Fields and Sarah Breazeale Reeves.

She was retired from the Greenville County School District and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Randy Orr of Piedmont; two grandchildren; brothers, Carl Reeves of Greenville, Ray Reeves of Pelzer, and Bill Reeves of Welford.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

 

HAZEL PAULINE CALHOUN DAVIS

Hazel Pauline Calhoun Davis, 85, of Piedmont, widow of Charles Glenn Davis, Sr., died Monday, December 21, 2015 at her home.

Born in Caroleen, NC, she was a daughter of the late Marion Washington Calhoun and Ethel Estell Vassey Calhoun.

She retired from J.P. Stevens Dunean Plant and was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Diane Whitmire of Taylors, Kathy Sonefelt of Tomball, TX, Brenda Brown of Simpsonville, Mary Ann Richards of Fountain Inn; sons, Charles “Pete” Davis Jr. and Michael Davis, both of Piedmont; sisters, Sybil Rhodes of Greer, Doris Brown of Mauldin; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery in Forest City, NC.

MICHAEL AUSTIN HESTER

Michael Austin Hester, 68, of Kannapolis, NC, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at Carolinas HealthCare System Northeast, Concord, NC.

He was born in Greenville to the late Ollie Austin Hester and Lucille Landreth Hatton.

He was a US Marine Corps Veteran and worked for Clegg’s Pest Control.

He is survived by a son, Rev. C. Todd Hester of Virginia; sister, Debbie Lynn Yeager of Powdersville; brother, Mark Edward Hatton of Greenville; and two granddaughters.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Dec. 27 at Robinson Funeral Home, Easley.

VERA P. DOGAN HILL

Vera Hill, 96, of Greenville, died December 24, 2015 at her home.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Dogan Smith of Greenville; son, William Earl Hill of Powdersville; sisters, Evelyn Dickens of Temple Hill, MD and Dorothy Humbert of Simpsonville; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 30 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MARCELLE MORSE

Marcelle Burdette Morse, 93, of Williamston, widow of James Oscar Morse, Sr., died Sunday, December 27, 2015.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Henry L. and Vincy Lister Burdette. She retired from the Williamston Hospital and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by children, Ranny Rice of Olathe, KS, Bill Rice of Williamston, Glenda Williams of Easley, Paul Rice  of Williamston, and Jimmy Morse of Williamston; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, December 29 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
