For Presidential Primaries

The Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Anderson County will be open additional hours this Saturday, February 6 from 9 a.m. until noon. Anderson County Registered voters, who qualify, and need to cast an absentee ballot for the Presidential Preference Primaries may do so during that time. “We will be open these additional hours and ready to serve voters that may need to cast an absentee ballot,” said Katy Smith, Director. “We felt this would be beneficial to the voters.” Voters should be aware and understand that absentee voting is not early voting.

“Contrary to popular belief, this is not Early Voting”, Smith said. “Some of our neighboring states do have Early Voting in which voters can cast their ballot before Election Day for no reason other than to vote early and this causes some confusion for our citizens; however, in South Carolina only voters that meet certain criteria are allowed to vote before Election Day.”

People are encouraged to visit www.scvotes.org to learn more about Absentee Voting. Normal hours for the Voter Registration and Election office is 8:30 until 5 p.m. weekdays.

The Board of Voter Registration and Elections Office is located at 301 North Main Street on the corner of Orr and Main.

The South Carolina Republican Presidential Primary will be held on Saturday, February 20. A week later, due to a glitch in the registration process, the Democrats will hold their Presidential Primary the following Saturday, Feb. 27.
