Meals on Wheels

Williamston Councilman Rockey Burgess will volunteer to drive a meal delivery route for Meals on Wheels-Anderson on Tuesday, March 8 as a Community Champion in honor of March for Meals month, an annual month-long event, led by Meals on Wheels America, designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger and isolation and to celebrate the invaluable services provided by Meals on Wheels.

The goal during the month is to raise awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding from local businesses and supporters. “March is an important month for us,” said Laurie Ashley, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels-Anderson. “Raising awareness about our program is what helps to make us successful. We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers and community support.”

Community Champions (elected officials) throughout the county have been invited to volunteer with Meals on Wheels during the month and several council members and mayors from the different municipalities in Anderson County are on the delivery schedule. Williamston Mayor Mack Durham will also volunteer this month, and the exact date is still being arranged.

During March, Meals on Wheels also holds its annual spaghetti fundraiser. On March 10, spaghetti meals including spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and tea are available at lunch and dinner hours for dining in, take out or delivery (for 10 or more). Tickets are available at $8 for adults; $5 for children (under 12).
