Pelzer Council workshop covers variety of issues

Pelzer Town Council held a workshop on February 23 during which there was discussion concerning a variety of issues including town meeting policy, master plan/comprehensive plan, the Pelzer Historic Commission, the Pelzer Heritage Commission, renovation of the old hospital and Pelzer gym and other issues. The meeting lasted approximately two and a half hours.

Highlights of the workshop meeting were: Town officials are considering forming a focus group to develop a Master Plan and possibly getting help from Clemson University grad students, Anderson County and the Appalachian Council of Governments.

There was discussion about working with West Pelzer on possible police protection. Officials from both towns are expected to attend the next Pelzer work session on Mar,. 22

There was discussion about renovations to the old hospital building and possibly using it as a town hall. An individual has expressed interest in helping with renovations.

Employee concerns were addressed including considering a raise for employees, use of time sheets and overtime.

There was discussion about the lagoon property and its designated use for Parks and Recreation.

According to town officials, the property was allocated to Parks and Recreation in exchange for park property sold to Bi-Lo. The lagoon property is no longer for sale and it is currently being used for collateral for the loan to Reural Development fo fund Phase 1 sewer project.

Pelzer Town Council will hold their next workshop at the Pelzer Commuity Buidling at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 22.
