Hwy. 247 fatality involving coal ash truck

One person was fatally injured in a head-on accident involving a Waste Management 18-wheeler on Cooley Brige Road (Hwy. 247) in south Greenville County. The accident happened Tuesday morning about one mile west of Hwy. 25. The truck, which was hauling coal ash from the  Duke Energy Lee Steam Station facility near Williamston, had minimal damage and according to reports, the truck driver was not injured. Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans has not released the name of the victim who was fatally injured in the car involved. South Greenville Fire Department, Greenville County EMS, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and SC Hwy. Patrol responded. A detour was in effect while the accident was being cleared around 12:30 p.m. SC Hwy. Patrol was still investigating on the scene.
