BOYCE KNOX

WILLIAMSTON – Boyce Hawood Knox, 74, widower of Virginia Ann Spence Knox, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his home.

Born in Easley, he was the son of the late Walter Hawood and Clara Mae Edens Knox.  He was retired from 3M, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Chandler Griffith of Greenville; his beloved grandchildren who were the lights of his life, Emerson, Knox and Henry; sisters, Shelvia Moody and Sandy Mardis, both of Williamston.

Visitation was from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at Calvary Baptist Church.  The funeral service followed at 3:00 p.m. at the church.  Burial was at Robinson Memorial Gardens, Easley.

‘KITTY’ BLACKSTONE

Thelma “Kitty” Blackstone, 66, of Pelzer, widow of Robert Lewis Blackstone, Sr., died Sunday, July 10, 2016.

She was twice married, first to Donnie Crawford.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late George Walter and Birdy Bright. She was retired from Patrick B. Harris Hospital and was a Baptist.

Survivors include sons, Jason Crawford, Robert “Bit” Blackstone, Jr.; brother, George Bright; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 14, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

RUTH ALLEN

PELZER—Mary Ruth Webb Allen, 71, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, July 1, 2016.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Willie Robert, Sr. and Amanda Scroggs Webb. Retired from Fiber Industries and Hickory Point Stores in Pelzer, she was a Christian and attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Miranda Allen of Pelzer; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Ralph James of Pelzer; many nieces and nephews; and friends without number.

She was predeceased by sisters, Annie Lou Dickerson, Artie Sue Webb; brother, Willie Robert Webb, Jr.

Visitation was held Tuesday, July 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral was Wednesday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Living Water Church of God of Prophecy, West Pelzer. Burial followed at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

FRANCES BLAIR

Frances Virginia Babb Blair, 78, of Pelzer, wife of Thomas L. Blair, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at AnMed Health in Anderson.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Babb and Mary Ann Williams Babb.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Lynn Jernigan; son, Bryan Blair; sisters, Margaret Pearson and Faye Rodgers; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family received friends July 7 at Robinson Funeral Home, Easley.

NORMA L. LEGERE

Norma L. Legere, 84, of Piedmont, widow of J. Leo Legere, died June 29, 2016.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Lewis; brother, Ronald Lewis; sons and daughters, Sandy Legere, Duane Legere, Kevin Legere, Brent Legere, Robyn Legere, and Traci Bouis; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 9 at Grace Episcopal Church, 711 S. McDuffie St., Anderson. Her cremains will be buried next to her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

MARGARET WEISNER ELLISON

Margaret Eleanor Weisner Ellison, 77, wife of Lewis M. Ellison, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her home.

Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Harold and Martha Adice Weisner.

She formerly worked for Valco, Inc.

She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Randall L. Ellison of Easley; daughter, Kimberly E. Cochran of Anderson; three grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry and Rhett Weisner; and one sister, Judy W. McAbee.

Funeral services were held July 6 at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

POLLY STONE

Polly Cooley Stone, 91, of Williamston, widow of Wallace Harper Stone, died Sunday, July 10, 2016.

A native of southern Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James Enoch and Vennie Cothran Cooley. She was retired from Dary Sue Industries.

Survivors include sons, Larry Stone of Los Angeles, CA, Danny Stone (Denise) of the Dominican Republic; sisters, Ruth Warlick, Zella Moody, Nan Shubert; brother, James Cooley; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 17, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Guthrie Grove Church Cemetery.

ANN ELISE CHANDLER CLYDE

Ann Elise Chandler Clyde, 100, of Greenville, died Thursday, July 7, 2016 in the Brookdale at Southpointe.

She was born in The Ware Place to Raymond and Nelle Chandler.

She owned her own beauty salon for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Andy” Clyde.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Still Henderson, Nancy Goudelock Stevenson, and Roberta Griffith; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9 in the Chapel of Graceland East Memorial Park.

HUGH ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ ROBBINS, JR.

Hugh Robert “Bobby’ Robbins, Jr., of Powdersville, husband of Alice Gillespie Robbins, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, GA.

He was born in Greenville County to the late Hugh Robert, Sr. and Carolyn Davis Robbins.

He was second generation owner and operator of Robbins Tire in Greenville and Powdersville.

He was a member of Crosswell First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son; Robby Robbins of Easley; and daughter, Christie R. Ballew of Powdersville.

Funeral service was held Sunday, July 3 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home.

THOMAS ‘RONNIE’ RONALD ROGERS

Thomas “Ronnie” Ronald Rogers, 65, of Charleston, formerly of Piedmont, husband of Martha Merritt Rogers, died Sunday, July 3, 2016.

He was born in Greenville, son of the late William “Pat” Vernon Rogers and Alma Edens Rogers. He was a retired chemist.

He is survived by his son, Eric Rogers of Wadmalaw Island; and brother, Wayne Rogers of Piedmont.

All services will be private.

JEANNETTE TATE

Doris Jeannette Wilson Tate, 90, of Piedmont, wife of the late John Loy Tate, Sr., died Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

Born in Shelby, NC, she was a daughter of the late Zeke and Frances Cobb Wilson.

She was formerly employed with Wilmont Drugs.

She was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Debbie Tate White of Piedmont; son, Johnny L. Tate, Jr. of Piedmont; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service was held Friday, July 8 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BRITTANY NICOLE NORRIS

Brittany Nicole Norris, 25, of Liberty, SC died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at McLoud Regional Hospital in Florence, SC.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of James Norris and Michelle Gregory.

She was a homemaker and a loving mother to Trinity Madison Major and Zymire York Major.

In addition to her partner, York Major, she is survived by a brother, Jacob Gregory; sister, Jessica Norris; niece Moriah Edwards; grandparents, Ann Lowell, Dale Gentile and Willis Norris; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by grandparents Pauline Norris, Te Childers and Mack Gregory.

A special memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Bethel Church of God, 420 Old Brickyard Road, Pelzer, SC at 12 noon. Pastor Wally Winner will officiate.

ARTHUR LEE CHITWOOD

Arthur Lee Chitwood, 88, of Williamston, widower of Martha Bowling Chitwood, died Sunday, July 10, 2016.

Born in Seneca, he was the son of the late Robert P. “R.P.” and Alice Marie Simpson Chitwood.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired truck driver with Winn Dixie. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Janet Reavis of Greer; son, Terry L. Chitwood of Anderson; brothers, Kenneth Chitwood and Donnie Chitwood, both of Greenville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

CECIL KING

PIEDMONT—Cecil James King, 88, husband to “Guynell” Sloan King, died Sunday, July 10, 2016.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late J. Raymond and Nannie Mae Baldwin King. A South Carolina National Guard Veteran, he was retired from Cushman Mill, a devout Christian and member of Williamston Church of God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Jan Guynell Beasley (Steve) of Palm Coast, FL; sons, James Grady King (Melissa) of Piedmont and Jeffery Wayne King (Tess) of Pelzer; sisters, Mary Reeves of Greenville, JoAn Powers of Weaverville, NC, and Ruby Gerisch of Belton; brother, Robert King of Mauldin; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by daughter, Joyce Mae Phillips; sisters, Kathleen Jones, Miriam Butler, Beatrice King and Frances Syczylo; brothers, Lucius, J. R., and Charles King, and Randolph Price.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 14, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
