rsz_standoffffatalresAn Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputy fatally shot a man Tuesday as officers attempted to serve a probation violation warrant in the Wren community. Jeffrey Allen Morris, 44, of Mountain Springs Road was shot when he raised a gun at a deputy after about an hour standoff with deputies. He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital and died a few hours later.

According to reports, Morris had a rifle or long gun and was at a standoff with deputies when negotiations fell apart. The deputy’s name has not been made public. The shooting is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said he believes only one deputy fired but could not say how many shots were fired.

Deputies were prepared for a possible altercation with Morris because he had been in a similar standoff in March of 2015.

During that incident, Morris was accused of not allowing his girlfriend to leave a home on Mountain Springs Road.

He was charged with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence in that incident.
