Anderson County Public Works Department reported the following projects underway across the county:

Animal Shelter – For two weeks, the shelter is running a fee waived adoption. There is no cost to adopt through October 20.  Decreased the stray hold from 7 days to 5 days; Painted the lobby and office hallways; Buildings and Grounds re-landscaped the property; Hiring for full-time and part-time positions; Have had 120 animals adopted/foster to adopt; with 23 to rescue.

? PERMITS SUBMITTED: 3 New Single-Family Dwelling and 5 Addition-Renovation; 10 Detached Garage/Accessory Buildings; 2 Replacement; 1 Demolition; 21 Electrical and HVAC Upgrades; 4 Commercial Including: AT&T Mechanical Permit for HVAC Replacement, 400 SF Open Pavilion @ Cobbs Glenn, Panera Bread Interior Re-Model, Electrical for Pump Motor For Duke Energy; 19 Mobile Home including: New Homes, Change of Ownership, moves from other counties, change of location, etc.

? DRAWINGS SUBMITTED: Re-wire of Existing Building for Covert Electrical, Stop-A-Minute Interior Renovation and Various resubmittals

Development Standards

? MEETINGS HELD:

? The Planning Commission met on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at 6:00pm and approved the following:

§  Variance request to allow for the abandonment of an existing mobile home park for a conversion to single family residential lots. The property is located at 203 Sherwood Drive, Belton.

§  The request was approved unanimously and there was no opposition to the request.

? SITE PLAN REVIEW:

§  Duke Energy Transmission Expansion located Est of E. West Parkway and Gallant Lane, Anderson.

§  Anderson Quarry-Vulcan Construction modifying application to allow for borrow pit.

§  Phillips Recovery, new commercial office and warehouse expansion located on the east side of Cherokee Road near Lufkin, Pelzer.

§  O’Reilly Automotive Final Review located on Hood Road, Powdersville.

? LAND USE PERMITS ISSUED:

§  Powdersville Middle School Expansion located on Hood Road, Powdersville.

? GRADING PERMITS ISSUED:

§  Duke Energy Transmission Expansion located East of E. West Parkway and Gallant Lane, Anderson.

§  Powdersville Middle School Expansion located on Hood Road, Powdersville.

? SUBDIVISIONS:

§  Avendell Phase II, Section 3, 34 new septic tank permits issued for construction.

Fleet Services

? Current amount sold on our online auction is estimated at $132,935.70

Roads & Bridges

? Bridge crew spent their week repairing bridge curbing on Old Williamston Road and Major Road, repairing guardrail at West Church Road Bridge, and removing debris from two trees that were downed during the weekend.

? Asphalt crew, ditching crew, vegetation crew and sign shop crew worked on routine work requests.

? 2015-2016 Road Improvement Contractor is in the process of asphalt base reclamation and paving roads in Shadow Oaks Subdivision. Contractor completed paving the roads in Rose Hill Subdivision.

? Received water quality permit for Walker Road Bridge Replacement Project. 

? Received two bids for Guyton & Sullivan Roads on October 13, 2016.  S and S Construction Inc. of Anderson is the apparent low bidder with a grand total of $315,637.00. CoTransCo, LLC will be administering the two projects.

Stormwater

? No bids were received at the bid opening for the Broadway Dam Repair project. Alterations to specs will be made to see if any bids are received.

? Received new application for Magnolia Farms Subdivision on Roper Road across from Wren Elementary in Piedmont.

? Received resubmittal for North Pointe Subdivision.

? Granted waiver for WS Lee Ash Fill Area Project.

Solid Waste

? The “One Bag at a Time” program will continue through the month of October to help promote cleaning up litter on our roadways. Keep Anderson County Beautiful will provide the supplies such as gloves, pick-up grabbers and litter bags for residents during the event.

? Attended planning meeting for Powdersville sewer master plan with ReWa, Powdersville Water, and Anderson county staff.

? Answered permitting questions for new commercial business on Highway 153.

? Answered sewer capacity questions for Economic Development project.
