Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in a shooting Tuesday after a suspect threatened them with a knife. At approximately 4:40pm Tuesday, Greenville County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to The Turning Point rehab facility, located at 24 Bruce Road, Greenville in search of a subject with active warrants. When deputies arrived on scene they observed a black male subject immediately flee from their presence. As deputies began to investigate the reason for this behavior, they obtained and confirmed his identity.

Upon running the subject’s name through the National Crime Information Center, deputies discovered that he was wanted out of Jasper County. A short time later deputies located him. According to reports, upon sight the subject jumped a fence, and took off running through the woods in the direction of Bruce Road. Deputies gave chase while verbally ordering him to stop and were eventually able to cut him off near the wood-line next to Bruce Road.

As deputies closed in on the subject, he pulled out a knife in a threatening manner and raised it up in an attack position towards the deputies. Deputies gave the subject repeated, and loud, verbal commands to drop the knife at which time he advanced towards the deputies, one of which responded by firing his service weapon at least one time, striking the subject to eliminate the immediate threat.

Deputies then requested EMS and immediately began to render medical aid to the subject until medics arrived on scene.

Once medics arrived on scene they transported the subject to the hospital for treatment. The incident is being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division and the deputy has been placed on administrative duties per standard, Sheriff’s Office protocol.
