A Powdersville firefighter looks over the scene of a fatal accident. Joshua Daniel Baxter, 23, of Piedmont was fatally injured Saturday morning when the 1994 Ford SUV he was driving struck the back of a 2016 Chevrolet SUV and overturned on I-85. Baxter was partially ejected from the vehicle when it flipped on its side according to Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown.
McCown said drugs, speed and alcohol were likely factors in the wreck which happened about 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 37 on the interstate. A 19-year-old passenger in Baxter’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were not injured. Powdersville Fire Department, Pelzer EMS responded.
