DARLENE SMITH

Marilyn Darlene Cothran Smith, 58, wife of Grady Wesley Smith, of Williamston, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at her home.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Charles William and Marilyn Virginia Thompson Cothran.  She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Amanda Gillette and Kimberly Wright, all of Williamston; son, Donnie Smith of Williamston; sisters, Julia “Kitten” Elgin of Williamston and Sonya Owen of Honea Path; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The funeral was held Friday, August 4, in the chapel of Gray Mortuary with burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

MARILYN KILGORE

Marilyn Widener Kilgore, 80, of Piedmont, died Monday, July 31, 2017 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Bremen, GA, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Wesley and Cora Latham Widener.

She was a teacher and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Melissa Kilgore Nelson of Clemson and Julie Kilgore Scott of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; two great grandsons; and one sister, Cheryle Turner.

Memorial service was held Saturday, August 5 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road.

CMSGT. OLIVER CHARLES BUMGARNER, USAF RET.

CMSgt. Oliver Charles “Charlie” Bumgarner, USAF Ret., of Greer, son of the late Oliver and Audrey Bumgarner, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II, two tours in Korea and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a corporate pilot and a flight instructor. He also opened Charlies BBQ.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Kay Bumgarner.

He is survived by sons, David Bumgarner of Asheville, NC and Gregory Bumgarner of Pelzer; four grandchildren; his wife, Theresa I. Parker of the home; three sisters, Barb Mathis and Nancy Walsh of N. Wilkesboro and Carol Lovette of San Antonio, TX.

He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church.

Funeral service was held Saturday, August 5 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

ROBERT E. HOLDEN

Robert “Bob” Eugene Holden, 76, of Greenville, husband of Derrill Waters Holden, died July 31, 2017.

Born in Anderson he was a son of the late James Walter Holden and Eloise Pritchard Barton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nan Harrison of Piedmont; son, Scott Holden of Travelers Rest; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Gaynette Barton of Simpsonville, Sandy Helms of Easley, Brenda McCombs of Greenville, and Tina Powell of Greenville.

A graveside service was held Saturday, August 5 at Mountain View Memorial Park in Travelers Rest.

‘PETE’ LOLLIS

Thomas David “Pete” Lollis, 69, of Easley, widower of Wanda Holden Lollis, died Friday, August 4, 2017.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Martha Lollis Pridmore Cook.  He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a U.S. Army National Guard veteran.

Survivors include brother, Teddy Pridmore of Simpsonville; sister, Elaine Liles of Pelzer.

The funeral was held Tuesday, August 8, at the Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with visitation following.

EVELYN MCCALL

PELZER – Evelyn C. McCall, 85, widow of Ralph Houston McCall, Jr., passed away Friday, August 4, 2017.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late James Edgar and Marguerite Ellison Coker.  She was retired from Ryobi and a member of Bethel Church of God.

Survivors include daughters, Debbie M. Davis (Tom) of Lyman and Lynn M. Rider (Will) of Pelzer; sister, Betty C. Carpenter of Denver, NC; grandchildren, Ann M. Hicks (Darby) of Pelzer and Katie S. Donald (Steven) of Williamston; one step-grandchild, Mandy Rider of Greenville; five great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017 at Guthrie Grove Church of God cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family was at the home of Ann Hicks, 421 Rogers Rd., Pelzer.

JAMES ‘KENNY’ REYNOLDS

James Kennemore “Kenny” Reynolds, 65, of Easley, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Autumn Care, Saluda, NC.

Born in Greenvile, he was the son of the late Fred A. and Mary Gaines Reynolds.

He retired from General Electric and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

He is survived by a sister, Betty R. Cox of Greenville; brothers, John W. Reynolds of Greenville, Fred N. Reynolds of Moonville, Larry D. Reynolds of Powdersville and Jack M. Reynolds of Cherokee, NC.

Funeral service was held August 9 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. A private burial was held.

MARGAREE GRAYDON

Margaree Jenkins Graydon, 99, of Greenville, widow of Lawrence Blackwell Graydon, died Thursday, August 3, 2017.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Merritt Edmund and Frances Elizabeth Jenkins.  She was a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Raymond L. Graydon of Anniston, AL; daughters, Connie V. Kennedy of Idaho and Judy G. Langley of Pelzer; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held  Tuesday, August 8, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

EMILY K. MITCHELL SMITH

Minister Emily Kaye Mitchell Smith, 57, of Greenville, died August 1, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital Downtown.

Born in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of The Honorable Theo Walker Mitchell and the late Greta Joanne Knight Mitchell.

Surviving in addition to her father are daughter, Dame Angelique Monet Smith of East Hampton, NY; and sister, Dr. Megan Dawn Mitchell Hoefer of Piedmont.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 8 at Allen Temple AME Church. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

CAROLYN HAYNES

Helen Carolyn Burgess Haynes, 82, of Williamston, wife of Leo Haynes, died Monday, August 7, 2017 at her home.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Herman Ted and Myrtle Lou Rhodes Burgess.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Gary Haynes of Williamston, Larry Haynes of Conestee and Steve Haynes of Williamston; brother, Herman Burgess of Williamston; sisters, Joyce Kay of Pelzer, Kathy Culbertson of Williamston and Teresa Staggs of Belton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday, August 9, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

CURTIS ALLEN GREENWAY BOND

Curtis Allen Greenway Bond, 77, of Piedmont, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in Piedmont.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by three children, Michael Bond, Sheila Bond Belk, and Dale Bond.

RICK ROGERS

Richard “Rick” Ernest Rogers, Jr., 47, of Anderson, died Friday, August 4, 2017.

Born in Fountain Inn, he was the son of Richard Ernest Rogers, Sr. of Greer and Brenda Gail Baldwin Rogers Wshington of Honea Path.

He was the husband of Donna Michelle Rogers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was CFO of Chillertek. He was a member of The Anderson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by one son, Richard Ernest Rogers, III of Anderson; five daughters, Amber Pratt of Medford, OR, Aspen Ballard of Pelzer, Sarah Rogers of Liberty, Kimberly Rogers and Courtney Rogers, both of Anderson; four brothers, David Rogers of Houston, TX, and John Rogers, Paul Rogers, and Mark Rogers, all of Simpsonville; three sisters, Lisa Rogers of Chattanooga, TN, Heatherly Rogers of Honea Path, and Donna Hess of Aurora, CO.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Ward building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery with military honors.

FLORIDE HAMILTON

Floride Alexander Hamilton, 90, of Pelzer, wife of the late Harold David Hamilton, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

Born in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late Phillip Henry Alexander and Emma Lois Britton Alexander.

She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, David Hamilton and Kent Hamilton, both of Piedmont; sister, Willie Lee Lollis of West Pelzer; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1 p.m. Thursday, August 10 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 1 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BETTY TROTTER CLEVELAND

Betty Joyce Timms Cleveland, 78, of Williamston, wife of the late Grady Lee Cleveland, Sr., died Monday, August 7, 2017.

She was previously married to the late Robert Curtis “Red” Trotter.

Born in Anderson County, She was a daughter of the late James Robert Timms, Sr. and Clara Mae Sargent Timms. She was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens, and was a member of Gospel Light Church.

Survivors include daughters, Donna King Williams of Tampa, FL, Alayne King Simmons of Anderson, Debbie Trotter Gentry of Williamston and Lea Trotter Wilkes of Newberry; sisters, Jennie MacNary and Gloria Chastain; brother, Bob Timms; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Gray Mortuary chapel. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.
