LEON PACK

BELTON – Melvin Leon Pack, 80, husband of 52 years to the late Clara Faye Ellison Pack, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Annie Pack; brothers, Alvin and Joe Pack; and sisters, Dorothy Pack Thompson and Mildred Pack Morgan.

He is survived by daughters, Mary Ann Pack of Belton, SC and Freda Pack Bishop and husband, David, of Charlotte, NC; beloved grandson, Chandler Bishop; special friend, Barbara Bradshaw of Cayce, SC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He retired from Southern Bell/Bellsouth after 45 years of service, he also worked at Martin Manufacturing and was in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of the first graduating class of Palmetto High School in 1954 and was an active member and teacher at Cedar Grove Baptist Church for many years.

Visitation was from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Friday, September 29, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. A memorial service followed at 4:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund, 13024 Highway 20, Belton, SC 29627.

PAUL BOWEN, JR.

Paul Franklin Bowen, Jr., 76, of Williamston, husband of Betty Sue Smith Bowen, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Paul Franklin Bowen, Sr. and Lula Mae Fletcher Bowen. He retired from Cushman Mills and attended Trinity Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Mark Anthony Bowen of Williamston; daughter, Paula Allen of Williamston; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; special family, Sonny and Rhonda Lyle and their children.

Funeral service was held Saturday, September 30, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

JUANITA E. MCGEE

Juanita Elrod McGee, 93, of Easley, wife of the late Dillard E. McGee, died Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Samuel Elrod, Sr. and the late Lucia Wilson Elrod, she retired from Judson Mill and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Land of Easley; sister, Doris Tucker of Piedmont; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Oct. 2 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

DONALD WILLIAM GILMER

Donald William Gilmer, 76, of Mansfield, GA, husband of Martha Davis Gilmer, died Thursday, September 28, 2017.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late John and Eva Gilmer. He was a retured truck driver and a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Debra Shaffer; sons, Steve Gilmer, Elmer Brown, Dana Brown; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

‘BILL’ RIDGEWAY

William Eugene “Bill” Ridgeway, 62, of Williamston, husband of Debra Ann “Debbie” Milner Ridgeway, died Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Born in Laurens County, he was a son of Lois Porter Ridgeway and the late James Pelham Ridgeway. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughter, Crystal Crocker and son, James Ridgeway, both of Greenville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Cathy Ridgeway and brother, Bobby Ridgeway, both of Williamston.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  The funeral will follow in the mortuary chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Beaverdam Baptist Church cemetery.

The family is at the home of Lois Ridgeway, 6008 Midway Rd., Williamston.

ZAIN HANEY

Zain Thomas Haney, 23, of Clemson, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Tracie Jeanes Barlow of Clemson and Robert Paul Haney of Piedmont.

He attended Tri County Technical Colege and was a landscaper with Matt’s Grading and Landscaping Company.

Surviving in addition to his mother is her husband, Jerry Barlow and his father and his wife, Landi; sister, Katie Barlow of Washington, DC; brothers, Zachary Haney of Clemson  and J. Allen Barlow of Clemson; grandmothers, Linda Jeanes and Peggy B. Haney, both of Greenville.

Funeral services were held Friday in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.

BRENDA THURSTON

PELZER – Brenda Owens Thurston, 75, wife of Larry R. Thurston, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Frances Chasteen Owens.  She was a member of Washington Baptist Church where she retired as secretary and treasurer following 29 years of service.  She was also a member of the WMU, choir member and former Sunday School teacher at Washington.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Steve Thurston (Tammy) and Wayne Thurston (Tammy), all of Pelzer; grandchildren, Clark, Brian, Michael, Owen, Laura, Lee, Dana, Sydney, Valerie and Samuel; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Lucas and Lilly; sisters, Martha Bagwell and Suzann Barnett, both of Pelzer; brother, Clarence Ricky Owens of Pelzer; sister-in-law, Jill Owens of Pelzer.

She was predeceased by brother, James Owens and brother-in-law, J.W. Bagwell.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, at Washington Baptist Church with the service following at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

RICKY PRUITT, II

Ricky Dean Pruitt, II, of Piedmont, died Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Ricky Dean Pruitt, Sr. of Greenville and Shirley Ann Reynolds Scott of Richmond, TX. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by son, Dylan Wayne Pruitt of ID; daughter, Ella Maxine Pruitt of WA; grandmother, Catherine “Cat” Pruitt of Taylors; sister, Catherine Taylor Pruitt of Greenville.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Thursday, October 5, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 11:00 am in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JERRY STOWE

Jerry William “Huggie Bear” Stowe, 69, of Pelzer, husband of Linda Fountain Stowe, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late William Cecil and Thelma Woodson Stowe.  He was retired from Ethox Chemicals, a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Renee Smith of Pelzer and Robin Stowe of Anderson; 8 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Thompson and brother, Floyd Stowe, both of Piedmont.

Visitation will be from 11 to noon Friday, October 6, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, with the service following at noon in the mortuary chapel.  Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

LIZZIE MAE JACKSON

Lizzie Mae Ashworth Jackson, 70, of Piedmont, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Walter Ashworth and the late Nora Lee Willis Ashworth.

She was the wife of the late Dock Marion Jackson, Jr.

She retired from JP Stevens Appleton and Clemson plants.

Surviving are three sons, Phillip Andrew Jackson of Williamston, Marion Gregory Jackson of Greer, and Jeffrey Dean Jackson of Piedmont; brother, Edward Ashworth of Anderson; sister, Ann Hendrix of Hartwell, GA; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 11 a.m. at New Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Thursday, Oct. 5 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

PAULINE SANDERS

Pauline Patat Reeves Sanders, 91, of Greenville, widow of Cleveland Jennings Sanders, died Monday, October 2, 2017.

Born in Athens, GA, she was a daughter of the late Emory Spear and Ressie Callahan Patat.

She was twice married, first to the late Joseph Edward Reeves.

Surviving are daughters, Lynn Camp of Pelzer, Jane Bayne of Greer, Tammy Reeves of Pelzer; sons, Richard Reeves and Mitch Reeves, both of Pelzer; brother, Emory “JR” Patat of Greenville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, October 5 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.
