Anderson County unemployment rate at 3.5 percent

Anderson County’s unemployment rate dropped in September to 3.5% from 4.2% in August, according to the latest statewide labor force report issued by the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. The county added 537 jobs from August to September, and 1,684 jobs since September 2016.
Since September 2010, Anderson County has averaged annual job increases of 1,604 compared to the previous September. In September 2009 there were 71,143 county residents employed, 10,226 unemployed, and the unemployment rate was 12.1%.
“This is good news to cap off a great week for us, when we welcomed Arthrex to our community and anticipate the announcement of a major expansion at a local existing industry” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “We’ve come a long way since the darkest days of the Great Recession, but memories of those bad times will keep this County Council focused on and committed to our economic development program.”
Anderson County’s 3.5% unemployment rate ties it for sixth among counties statewide.
