CHARLES CANTRELL

WILLIAMSTON—Charles Ralph Cantrell, 87, husband of Joan Ashley Cantrell, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late John Mack Cantrell, Sr. and Julia Ellison Cantrell. Retired from Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, he was a cattle farmer, and a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. Mr. Cantrell was also a member and previously served as President of the Pelzer Lions Club. He was a Mason for fifty-plus-years, a Scottish and York Rite Mason, and a Hejaz Shriner.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters, Louise Mullikin and Ellen Smith; brothers, Lawrence Cantrell, Sr. and John Mack Cantrell, Jr.

Visitation was held Tuesday, January 16 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service followed at 3:00 in the mortuary chapel with entombment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1904 Beaverdam Road, Williamston, SC 29697.

FRANCES FOSTER

Dr. Frances Helon Norris Foster, also known as Frances N. Harrelson, 95, of Greenville, wife of the late Joe H. Foster, Jr., died Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Fletch Anderson and Ruby Shirley Norris. She was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Greenville.

She is survived by son, Dr. Heyward “Joey” Foster III of Seneca; sisters, Faye Massengill of Easley and Marcelle Barr of Williamston; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, January 17, at Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Easley.

FRANK CLARK

Ben Frank Clark, 83, of Williamston, husband of the late Dorothy Lee Hall Clark, died January 10, 2018.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Benjamin Frank and Kathleen Landers Clark. He retired from Milliken, was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Sherron Robbins of Anderson, Donna Clark of Williamston; son, Demetrius Clark of Williamston; sisters, Linda Rickett, Vera Hayes, Mary Clark, Bobbie Hamby; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday, January 11, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service was Friday, January 12, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

THERESA EVANS

Theresa Hyburney Bullard Evans, 64, died died Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Born in Chicago, IL, she was a daughter of the late Arvil Monroe and Shirley Ann Price Bullard. She was retired from Fred’s.

She is survived by son, Patrick Evans of Belton; daughter, Jennifer Ryals of Williamston; sisters, Glenda Matlock of Franklin, KY, Brenda Hubbard of Iuka, MS; five grandchildren.

Memorial service was held Saturday, January 13, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

ELIZABETH ESKEW

Elizabeth Chapman Eskew, 89, of Williamston, wife of the late Roy Thomas Eskew, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Clyde and Neomia Kinard Chapman. She retired from Cushman Mill and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Donna Ellis of Williamston, Robin Addison of Pelzer; sister, Irene Darby of Williamston; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Friday, January 12, at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

LAVERNE HIGGINBOTHAM

Beuron LaVerne Higginbotham, 87, of Anderson, died Thursday, January 11, 2018.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Beuron Fay and Ludie Smalley Higginbotham.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys C. Higginbotham; three children, Brenda Garrett of Memphis, TN, Larry Higginbotham of Chapin, and Patsy Bradley of Piedmont; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Higginbotham, and Ronnie Higginbotham; and two sisters, Ruby Martinez and Jeanette Vermillion.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his step-mother, Rosa Gibson Higginbotham.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 14 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

MARGUERITE ELLIS

Marguerite Louise McAlister Ellis, of Owasso, OK, wife of the late Gary David Ellis, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at her home.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late James Allen McAlister, Sr. and Helen Alene Higginbotham McAlister. She retired from Mt. Vernon Mills.

She attended Church on the Move in Tulsa, OK.

She is survived by son, Michael “Mike” David Ellis of the home; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James McAlister, Jr.; and sister, Janis Hawkins.

The funeral was Wednesday, January 17, Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

GRADY STATON

Grady Staton, 96, of Williamston, died Sunday, January 7, 2018 in Anderson.

A Memorial service was held Tuesday, January 16 at First Baptist Church in Williamston.

KATHERINE ROSS

Katherine “Kitty” Ellen Ross, 99, of Pelzer, died Sunday, January 14, 2018.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Dr. William A. and Mary Ellen Scott Ross.

She retired from Fork Shoals Elementary School and was a member of Lickville Presbyterian Church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate familly.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 18 at 2 p.m. at Lickville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, followed by a memorial service in the church.

Visitation will be held after the service in the Sunday school building.
