The Envision Williamston Board of Directors is pleased to announce the allocation of funds for Phase II of the Façade Improvement Grant Program. A total of 22 awards were allocated to local businesses and commercial property owners. Funding was also available to support the unmet need portion for applicants under Phase I. In total, over $28,000 in matching funds is being awarded.
Support for these grants was made possible through funding by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), the Palmetto Business Association and the Town of Williamston. Bringing together a variety of funders to form several public/private partnerships, the ARC has underwritten a total of seven project components for the town.
Future activities under the ARC grant include a streetscaping initiative with minor gateways and greenways, inspirational decals for marketing available commercial properties, and implementation of the mural project. In addition, the grant supported forty-two streetside banners that were put on display at the beginning of the year, and five new rest stops were added to our inventory. Three-four additional rest stops are planned for this spring, bringing our total to 12-13 along the Historic Downtown Williamston corridor and along the Mineral Spring Trail.
