DEBORAH MATTESON

ANDERSON – Deborah Rose Chapman Matteson, 53, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Jerald C. and Eleanor Campbell Chapman. She was a registered nurse with Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents of Belton, she is survived by sons, Will Matteson of Atlanta, GA and Jacob Matteson of Duncan; daughter, Scarlett Matteson of Belton; brothers, Ed Chapman (Brandie) and Chris Chapman (Vicki) all of Belton; grandchildren, Amare, Anna Rose, Harper and Campbell Matteson; nephews and nieces, Ryan, Kristina, Jared, Amber, and Ruthie Chapman.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 20, in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with visitation following the service.

The family is at the home of Ed Chapman, 301 Lickville Rd., Belton.

EDNA MAE FARMER BAGWELL

Edna Mae Farmer Bagwell, 63, wife of Joe R  Bagwell, of Piedmont passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Born in Pulaski, VA she was the daughter of the late Roby Farmer and Mary Ethel Dalton Farmer.

She is survived by her daughter Amanda Keeler (Brent Keeler) of Williamston, son Michael Galloway (Anne Galloway) of Piedmont, Step- daughter Lindsay Lusk (Tony Lusk) of Piedmont,  Step-son Joey Bagwell (Jennifer Bagwell)  of  Abbeville, 11 grandchildren, and sister Sue Wyatt of Axton, VA

She was predeceased by three brothers Jackie Farmer, Tom Farmer, William Farmer, and two sisters Bertha Lawson and Judy Strong.

Services were held at Big Creek Baptist Church, Friday May 18 2018 from 5 to 7.

JONATHAN HORMUTH

Jonathan Cody Hormuth, 26, of Williamston, died Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home.

Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was a son of Matthew D. Hormuth of Fort Branch, IN and Susan Kay Carper Clayton of Commerce, GA.

He was employed by Carolina Beer Company.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance, Tiffany Alexander of Williamston; children, Carper Hormuth, Cashton Hormuth, and Reid Hormuth, all of Fair Play, and Kadence Todd and Skyler Holcombe, both of Williamston; brother, Hunter Clayton of Commerce; and sister, Ashley Hormuth of Fort Branch, IN.

Funeral service was held Friday, May 18 at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home. Interment followed in Hill Haven Cemetery.

MARGARET JAMES HANNAH

Margaret J. James Hannah, 78, of Pelzer, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at her home.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Albert James and the late Rilla McCrary James.

She was a home health aide and a member of Living Church of God in Anderson.

Surviving are her husband, Johnny Hannah of Anderson; son, David Gilbert of Pelzer; daughters, Roxanne Crump of Anderson, and Barbara Cheek of Williamston; brother, Nathan James of Anderson; sisters, Ann Smith of Starr, and Clara Higginbotham of Anderson; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service was held in the chapel of McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, May 18. Burial followed in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

KATHY HOOPER

Kathy Gambrell Hooper, 66, of Pelzer, wife of James “Randy” Hooper, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Carolyn Gambrell and the late Doyle Gambrell. She was retired from Furman University and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by daughter, Brandi Collins; step-children, Scott Stewart, Kimberly Creswell, and Corey Hooper; sister, Denise Wynn; brothers, Kerry Gambrell, Mike Gambrell, and Barry Gambrell; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

IRENE WOOD

PELZER – Nettie Irene Harris Wood, 86, wife of Robert Hollis Wood, Sr., passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018.

Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Pearl Dyer Harris. She had a passion for nursing which continued well after retiring as a NICU, oncology and ER RN with Emory University Hospital, Norfolk General Memorial Hospital, and Williamston Hospital. She was an active member of Pelzer United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Robert Hollis Wood, Jr. of Pelzer; daughter, Cynthia Wood VanWyk of Clifton Park, NY; grandchildren, Eric J., Emily J., and Jennifer Irene VanWyk (Jonathan M. Woolley); and great-grandson, Peter Hollis VanWyk.

She was predeceased by brothers, Franklin D. Harris and Joseph D. Harris.

A graveside service was held Monday, May 21, at 2:00 p.m. in the mausoleum chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

BERNICE ROPER

Constance “Bernice” Roper, 87, of Powdersville, wife of the late Houston Roper, died Friday, May 18, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Perce N. and Elizabeth Brown Miller. She retired from Carolina Rubber Hose at Donaldson Center.

She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Powdersville.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Roper Thompson, Deborah Roper McDowell of Powdersville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, May 22 at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

CHARLES EUGENE ‘HOP’ HOPKINS, SR.

Charles Eugene “Hop” Hopkins, Sr., husband of Ethel Moody Hopkins, of Greenville, died Saturday, May 19, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Edgar Hopkins and Nellie Fortner Hopkins.

He retired from the YMCA of Greenville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Charles E. “Chip” Hopkins, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; one daughter, Cynthia Hopkins Howard of Travelers Rest; three grandchildren; and one sister, Sue Elliott.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, May 23 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel.

RANDY JONES

Bruce Randolph “Randy” Jones, 58, of Greenville, died Saturday, May 19, 2018.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Bruce Jones, and was raised by Frank and Sarah Jones.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Phillips; brother, Mack Jones; sister, Lynn Barnett, all of Piedmont.

Funeral service was held May 23 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BARBARA JEAN WENTZKY

Barbara Jean Knight Wentzky, 82, of Williamston, widow of Carl Albert Wentzky, died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Birtie Adaline Hiott Knight.

She was a homemaker and a member of Midway Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her son, Stan Wentzky; daughter, Cindy Wentzky Harrell, both of Williamston; three grandsons; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Eleanor Richardson of Easley, Joyce Caldwell of Williamston, and Judy Green of Piedmont.

A memorial service was held Monday at Midway Presbyterian Church.

Anthony Wayne “Tony” Bruce, 68, died at his home in Pelzer.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 519 Anderson Street, Pelzer.

Michael D. Hudson, husband of Ronnie Hudson, died Thursday, May 17, 2018.

A memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
