THELMA WOOTEN

WILLIAMSTON – Thelma Harris Wooten, 93, wife of the late Earl Hazwell Wooten, Sr., passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Clyde and Ethel Greer Harris. A member of Pelzer United Methodist Church, she was formerly employed by Vitech Industries.

She is survived by her son, Earl H. “Buster” Wooten, Jr. (Mary Ann) of Williamston; son-in-law Alvin Reynolds of Dalton, Ga; grandchildren, Jason E. Reynolds, Joel T. Reynolds, Denise R. Pendley, Deidre W. Jordan; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jo Earle Wooten Reynolds; brother, James C. “Pete” Harris; and sister, Mildred H. Willemon.

Visitation was Saturday, July 7, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, followed by the funeral at 3:00 in the mortuary chapel. Burial was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

SHARON ANASTOS

Sharon Annette Cummings Anastos, 46, of Pelzer, wife of Patrick Dean Marter, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Born in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late George Melvin Cummings, Jr. and Linda Shirley Cummings. She was a server and cook at B&R Restaurant and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Nicholas Stewart of Anderson, Brandon Stewart of Belton; step-daughter, Patricia White of Piedmont; sister, Tammie Givens of Harrisonburg, VA; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Gray Mortuary. The family will greet friends following the service.

RAY CRAWFORD

Julian Ray Crawford, 83, of Belton, husband of Jean Knight Crawford, died on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at National Healthcare.

Born in Greenville Co., he was a son of the late Julian and Geneva Crawford.  He was retired from Kendall Mill in Pelzer, an antique dealer, and a member of Washington Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Beverly C. Spearman; two sisters, Thelma Fleming and Patricia Crawford; two brothers, Charles Wayne and Ted Crawford; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Gray Mortuary.   Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MARY ELLEN SMITH

Mary Ellen Cooley Smith, 78, of Anderson, wife of Wayne Harris Smith, Sr., died Monday, July 2, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Paul Joseph and Edith Phillips Cooley. She was formerly employed by Canteen Food Services.

She is survived by daughters, Tammy Renee Brock of Johnnson City, TN, Debbie Bannister of Williamston; sons, Gerald Bannister of Williamston, Wayne H. Smith, Jr. of Belton; half-sisters, Sharon Bailey of Hartwell, GA, Ann Ballew of Westminster; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Thursday, July 5, in the Chapel of  Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

FARRELL COKER

James Farrell Coker, 81, of Pelzer, husband of James Ann Lindley Coker, Friday, July 6, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Clara Stone Coker.   He retired from General Electric and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Eddie Coker of Belton, Wanda Madden of Belton, David Coker of Pelzer, Ronnie Coker of Belton, Jimmy Shaw of Williamston, and Terri Cox of Piedmont; sister,Tinnie Masters; twenty five grandchildren; forty four great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, July 9, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  Burial followed at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

DOROTHY FARR

Dorothy C. Farr, 71, of Piedmont, died June 26, 2018 at her home.

She is survived by three children, Janet Dennis of Columbia, David Farr of Honea Path, and Michael Farr of Columbia; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, John Catoe, Vernon Catoe, Charles Catoe, and Frank Catoe; and one sister, Sybil Roberts of Kingsport, TN.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

JOHN B. LEOPARD

John Bautista Leopard, 66 of Easley, died at home.

Born in Barcelona, Spain, he retired from the Greenville Hospital System.

He was the son of Carmen Martinez Lleo Leopard and Vicente Gares, stepson of David Leopard of Piedmont.

He is survived by his husband of the home, Charles Floyd; mother, Carmen Martinez Lleo Leopard of Piedmont; brother, Danny Leopard; and two sisters, Terri Smith and Linda Leopard.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 29 at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley.

WILLIAM ‘RED’ GARRISON

William Frank “Red” Garrison, of Belton, husband of the late Jessie Ellen Gentry Garrison, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Hospice House of the Upstate.

He was born July 23, 1936 in Pelzer to the late Roy Adger Garrison and Julia Bishop Garrison Alexander. He retired from Bibb Whitehorse Plant and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Belton.

He is survived by children, Susan Clark of Williamston, Tammie Layher of Belton, Daniel Garrison of Belton and Kelly Garrison of Pelzer; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 11, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith Cemetery.
