The Williamston Police Department is sponsoring a book bag drive and give-away this week. Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor (left), with help from Duke Energy volunteers (from left) Cristin Brown, and Braden Stanis open boxes of bookbags and sort them to be filled with back-to-school items. The book bags will be given to school children this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Municipal Center Auditorium while supplies last. The giveaway is sponsored by Duke Energy and Ace Hardware.  Families may pre-register to receive bookbags by calling 864-847-7473. “This is just one way the police department can give back to the community,” said Williamston Police Chief Tony Taylor.
