JIMMY WAYNE PAINTER

Jimmy Wayne Painter, 63, of Augusta, GA, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Jimmy Leroy Painter and Jerry Helen Taffer Painter.

He is survived by a son, Brandon Wayne Painter; a brother, Timothy Glenn Painter; also a sister, Jerry Diane Painter Thomason.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lerry Douglas Painter.

A memorial service was  held Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in Williamston.

JEAN DAVIS

Mary Jean Martin Davis, 78, of Williamston, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018.

She was born in Greenville on July 19, 1940, to the late Rhett F. and Margaret Thompson Martin. She was a graduate of Palmetto High School and Forest Junior College. She worked at Anderson School District 1 and served her community with Gleamns Human Resources.  Mrs. Davis was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry M. Davis of the home, daughters: Jane D. Moore (Mike) of Abbeville, Anna D. McWhite (Todd) of Anderson;  and her only son, Martin Davis of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Anna Lou Chiles of Atlanta and brother, Donald Martin of Topsail, NC and multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers: Harry T. Martin, Rhett F. Martin, Jr., and Tommy Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, October 4 at Beaverdam Baptist Church, Williamston with Rev. Brandon Couch and Rev. Chris Huff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the church prior to the service.

NANCY JANE HANNAH

Nancy Jane Hannah, 85, formerly of Belton, died Monday, September 24, 2018 at Ellenburg Nursing Center.

Born in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Furman and Myrtle Hawkins Hannah.

She was a member of Belton Church of God. Surviving are: brother, Milton Hannah of Piedmont; sisters, Faye Hughes of NC and Steva Jacobs of Anderson.

Service was held Thursday, Sept. 27 at Belton Church of God.

Burial followed at Garden of Memories. The family will be at their respective homes.

PATRICIA ‘PAT’ BURRELL TRIPP

Patricia “Pat” Burrell Tripp, 79, widow of Gerald Sidney Tripp, of Greenville, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Earl H. and Laura Pepper Burrell.

She was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Kristie Gentry of Powdersville; four grandchildren; three great granddaughters; and two brothers, Mike Burrell and Ricky Burrell.

A graveside service was held Friday, September 28 at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.

LARRY HARTLEY

Charles Larry Hartley, 74, of Piedmont, husband of Charlene Elizabeth Spelts, died Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Born in Winder, GA, he was the son of the late Charlie Allen and Thelma Stockton Hartley. A U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was a retired insurance broker and later a self-employed contractor. He was also an author, and syndicated columnist.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Rev. Dr. Melissa M. Hartley of Sewanee, TN.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

BILL McFALL

William Arthur McFall, 79, of Williamston, husband of Mildred “Micki” Moody McFall, died Saturday, September 29, 2018.

Born in Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late Charlie Clifford and Lillian Estell Thomas McFall. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Kendall Company and was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Perry McFall  of Piedmont; grandsons, Logan McFall and Kade McFall.

A memorial service was held Monday, October 1, in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The family greeted friends following the service.

MARY LEE ROBERTS SCOTT

Mary Lee Roberts Scott, 90, of Pelzer, wife of the late James Henry Scott, died Friday, September 28, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late John William and Rebecca Malinda Edens Roberts. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Frances Scott Crone of Williamston; sons, Jimmy Lee Scott of Pelzer and Derrell Scott of Fountain Inn; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 2, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

WAYNE LEDFORD

Wayne Bernard Ledford, 63, of Pelzer, husband of Sandra Renee Keeler Ledford, died Saturday, September 29, 2018.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of Betty Guthrie Ledford Gossett of Belton and the late James Bernard Ledford. He was formerly employed with Piedmont Tire.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughters, Kristie Ledford Blackwell of Williamston and Brooke Ledford of Simpsonville; son, Kevin “Ledford” Burgess of Pelzer; step-sons, Corey Spearman of Williamston and Ben Spearman of Piedmont; sister, Rena Ledford Lowe of Belton; brother, Donnie Gossett of Easley; brother by blessing, Rudolph Mosley of Williamston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 2, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with visitation following the service.

GLADYS BROOKS

Vera Gladys Riddle Brooks, 94, of Greenwood, widow of Arthur Henry Brooks, died Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Born in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy Lee Riddle and Vera Metts Riddle.

She retired from Greenwood Mills-Mathews Plant and was a member of New Market Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Ann Barnes of Greenwood and Cheryl Califf of Pelzer; her sister, Sue Brown of Piedmont; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.

Services were held at 3 pm on Sunday at New Market Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

PATSY PITTS

Patsy Ruth Kellett Pitts, 64, of Greenwood, died Sunday, September 30, 2018.

  Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of James Kellett of Williamston and the late Nancy Ruth Saxon Kellett. She attended Lighthouse Baptist Church in Abbeville.

She is survived by her sons, Toby Pitts of Fountain Inn, and Bo Pitts of Simpsonville; step-mother, Betty Guthrie Kellett of Williamston; brother, “Butch” Kellett of Simpsonville; step-sister, Wanda Sutherland; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 2, at West Pelzer Baptist Church.

NEARLDINE FORD

Nearldine McDonald Ford, of West Pelzer, wife of the late Rev. William Thomas Ford, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018.

Born in Ware County, GA, Mrs. Ford was a daughter of the late Rev. Eustice Austin and Eula Mae McDonald.  She was a supportive and faithful pastor’s wife and homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Rev. Michael Ford of West Pelzer and Keith Ford of Easley; daughter, Kim Moore of the home; sisters, Dartha Harvey and Jeanette Surratt; brothers, Rev. E.A. McDonald, Jr. and Gerald McDonald; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 pm Thursday, October 4, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MAMIE JO SMITH

The Unity Mortuary of Williamston announce that family and friends will gather at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mamie Jo Smith at The Roosevelt Thompson Memorial Chapel 110 N. Hamilton Street Williamston, with interment to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens 7784 Augusta Rd. Piedmont. The family is at 22 Church St. Williamston.
