CHARLES HENRY SCHWIERS, TOMMIE LONG MCCLAIN, SARAH FRANCES MARTIN JONES, WALTER SMITH, CARL AUSTIN, CLAUDIA GALLOWAY GILMORE

CHARLES HENRY SCHWIERS

Charles Henry Schwiers went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday October 11, 2018. He was born December 11, 1928 to August J. and Margaret P. Schwiers. He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Schwiers, sons, Charles Henry Schwiers Jr.(Mary Beth), Martin Haywood Schwiers, daughter, Bobbie Shaw, grandchildren, Richard Shaw, Robert Shaw, Charles H Schwiers III (Kristen), West Schwiers, Zack Schwiers, Allie Schwiers and a great-grand child Charles H. Schwiers IV.

Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home of Seneca is in charge of the arragements.

TOMMIE LONG MCCLAIN

Tommie Long McClain, 87, of Greenville, wife of the late Kenneth McClain, died Sunday, October 14, 2018.

Born in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late Thompson and Allie Long.

She taught elementary school at Sarah Collins, Lake Forest, and Buena Vista and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

She is survived by four children, Patti O’Connell of Greenville, Suzanne Neal of Greer, Sidney McClain of Pelzer, and David McClain of Belton; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Quattlebaum of Atlanta.

A visitation was held Wednesday, October 17, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown followed by the funeral service in the Chapel. Burial was held in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

SARAH FRANCES MARTIN JONES

Sarah Frances Martin Jones, of Anderson, died at Hospice of the Upstate on Monday, October 15, 2018.

She was born in Williamston to William Augustus and Pauline Wisenhunt Martin.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren O. Jones.

Surviving are her son, W. Stephen Jones; daughter, Nancy Sutton; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, October 16 at Old Silver Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, 515 S. McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.

WALTER SMITH

Walter Aldine Smith, 92, of Greenville, husband of Thelma Clardy Smith, died Monday, October 15, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Luther Cleveland and Pearl Clardy Smith. He retired from John D. Hollingsworth Company and was a member of Oak Crest Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CARL AUSTIN

Homer Carl Austin, 83, of Greenville, widower of Daisy Frances Galloway Austin, died October 13, 2018.

A native of Pelzer, he was a son of the late Homer Frederick and Ella Mae Crome Austin, a retired employee of Her Majesty and member of Airport Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Mike Austin of Taylors and Randy Austin of Greenville; one brother, Larry Austin of Piedmont; one sister, Peggy Moon of Piedmont; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary.

The family is at their respective homes.

CLAUDIA GALLOWAY GILMORE

Claudia Galloway Gilmore, 74, of Piedmont, died at her residence on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late B. F. Galloway and the late Sylvia Smith Galloway.

She was a homemaker  and attended Shiloh United Methodist Church, Piedmont.

In addition to her granddaughter Briley, she is survived by a son, Scott Welborn of Piedmont; a daughter, Traci Welborn of Piedmont; and two sisters, Gayle Marion of Williamston and Becky Rainey of West Pelzer.

A private ceremony will be held at a later time. Contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 207 Regency Executive Park Drive, Suite 170, Charlotte, NC 28217; or to a charity of one’s choice.
