During their January meeting Tuesday, the Anderson School District One Board recognized the Palmetto High Cheerleaders for their recent State Championship, recognized Wren librarian Tamara Cox and adopted the County-Wide school calendar for 2019-20.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kelly Pew served on the Anderson County Schools Calendar committee. Pew said there was some discussion about having five full days in the first week of school. The districts were asked whether teachers wanted a four day week on the first week of school or two days off for fall break. A majority in each of the five districts indicated they would rather go with five full days and have two days off on the break, Dr. Pew said.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing a $109 million bond referendum for a new building program which includes building two new middle schools, classroom additions for schools that are at or over capacity, critical renovations at schools that need them and improve safety at all fourteen District schools. Total cost for the building program is estimated at $132 million. In addition to the bond debt, additional funding for the program will include $20 million over the next five years from the Local Option Sales Tax and $3 million already set aside from the General Fund.
