TERRY ROGERS

PELZER – Helen Terry Rice Gurney Rogers, 97, wife of the late James Kenneth Rogers, Sr., passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at the home of her daughter in Baltimore, OH.

She was twice married, first to the late Dr. John Oliver Gurney, Jr.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Hayne and Mettie Eugenia Terry Rice. Mrs. Rogers was a retired teacher, having taught in schools in Fork Shoals, Sonoma, and Williamston. An active member of Beaverdam Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School, was involved in the WMU and all committees. She was also a member of the West Pelzer Get Together Club, a writer for the Williamston Journal, and was a local Poll Manager.

She is survived by her children, Terryann Gurney McCoy (Ken) of Baltimore, OH, and James Kenneth Rogers (Susan), Jr. of Ardmore, OK; six grandchildren, Audry Slane (Rob), Wade Moravek (Kari), Douglas Moravek (Natalie), Matthew, Andrew, and Kelly Rogers; step-grandson, Kenny McCoy (Melissa); and six great-grandchildren, Bryson, Tanner, and Katelyn Slane; Kendyl, Avrill, and Xander Moravek.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by son-in-law, Daryll Moravek; sisters, Nellie Rice, JoStella Peden, and Mildred Boyd; and brother, Harold Rice.

   Visitation was held Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church. The service followed at noon, with burial in the church cemetery.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Building Fund or Cemetery Fund of Beaverdam Baptist Church, 1904 Beaverdam Road, Williamston, SC 29697.

SARA TESNEAR

PIEDMONT – Sara Nell Lewis Tesnear, 78, wife of Robert “Bob” Tesnear, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2019.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Owen Lafayette and Ruby Rhinehart Lewis.  She was a former barber at Style King.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Lynn Bearden of Piedmont; sons, William Tesnear of Piedmont and Donald Tesnear of Williamston; sisters, Ellen Chapman of Anderson and Linda Heatherly of Cross Anchor; fourteen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.

JANIE CREAMER

Janie Mae Creamer, 74, of Williamston, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late George Berry and Ruby King Creamer. She worked at The Belton Corporation and later retired from Dairy Sue Fashions. She was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Doug Creamer of Williamston.

Funeral service was held Sunday, May 19,  at Beaverdam Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

DAVID PEARSON

David Charles Pearson, Sr., 86, of West Pelzer, husband of Patricia Ann Browning Foster “Pat” Pearson, died Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, he was a son of the late Harold Earl and Doris Williams Pearson. He retired from Woodside Mills.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kenneth Robert Pearson of Laurens, Michael Stephen Pearson of Williamston, Danny Joel Staton, Jr. of Pelzer, Shannon Pearson Lewis of Pelzer, Jeffrey Alan Pearson of West Pelzer; eight siblings; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A celebration of life service was held on Friday, May 17 at the Pelzer Masonic Lodge.

MARGARET ‘PEGGY’ HINTON SARRATT

Margaret “Peggy” Hinton Sarratt, 74, died on March 13, 2019, at her daughter’s home in North Carolina.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.

She was the daughter of the late Everett and Elizabeth “Betty” Hinton of Gaffney, and wife of the late, Samuel C. Sarratt.

She worked in the Traumatic Brain Injury Unit at Roger C. Peace and was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church before transferring to John Knox Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her children, Heather Hebert of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, Clay of Williamston, and Mary Elizabeth Swofford of Bluffton; and her brother Donald Hinton; and four grandchildren.

HELEN WILLIAMS

Helen Manley Williams, 74, of Greenville, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Open Arms Hospice in Simpsonville.

She was predeceased by her husband John T. Williams Sr.

Born in Anderson County to John Cole Manley and Ruby Mae King, both deceased, she is survived by her sons, Richard Carroll of Wesley Chapel, FL and Allen Carroll of Greenville; four grandchildren; siblings Jerry Manley of Laurens and Mary Ann Miller of Powdersville.

She worked for years at Ye Olde Fireplace and Vince Perone’s Restaurants in Greenville and later at Cryovac Sealed Air Corporation in Simpsonville.

She was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church.

A service was held at Sandy Springs Baptist Church on Saturday May 18th.

FAYE MCCALL

WILLIAMSTON – Faye Woodson Young McCall, 76, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Lester Woodson, Sr. and Mary Virginia Holliday Woodson. She retired from the Haven of Rest Ministries in Williamston and was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, Tony Young (Jolyn) of the home; daughter, Sherri Young Dalton (Glen) of Williamston; sisters, Brenda Gilreath of Williamston and Diane Lark of Anderson; brother, Ralph Woodson, Jr. of Williamston; grandsons, Benjamin Dalton, Jake, Cole, Payton and Jaxon Young; great-grandsons, Owen and Lane Dalton.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 19, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

CATHY JANE DAVIS

Cathy Jane Davis, 66, of Williamston, died Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Ware Shoals, she was the daughter of the late Alvin C. and Thelma Jane Darby Davis. She was of Baptist faith.

Surviving are: son, James R. Carter, Jr. of Williamston; daughter, Cathy Earlene Vaughn of Anderson; brothers, Alvin Lynn and Bobby Ray Davis; sisters, Libby Brown and Mary Haynes; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside Service was held Monday at Garden of Memories.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

BETTY JEAN COBB CELY

Betty Jean Cobb Cely, 92, of Powdersville died on May 15, 2019. She was the wife of the late Frank S. Cely. She is survived by her daughter Jo Ann Cely Rice and her husband Bennie Rice, and extended family Janet and Tony Land.

A private service will be held at a later date.

AUDRY MARIE FOSTER FREEMAN HIOTT

Audry Marie Foster Freeman Hiott passed away May 17th, 2019 at her home in Piedmont.

She was the daughter of the late Clifton L. Foster and Sallie Mae Miller Foster. She was retired from Compass of the Carolinas where she served as office manager.

She was predeceased by her husband James N. Freeman (Jim).

She is survived by a son James N. Freeman III and his wife Laura; and two grandchildren, Ransom and Reann Freeman. She is also survived by two brothers, Steve Foster of Williamston (Brownie) and Bill Foster (Carolyn) of Piedmont.

At this time, arrangements are incomplete.

SHIRLEY CANTRELL

Shirley Carol Hensley Cantrell, 81, of Anderson, wife of the late John Wyly Cantrell, died Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Born in Concord, NC, she was a daughter of the late Wayne Hensley and Mary Goodman Hensley Hogan. She retired from BASF in Anderson and was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Debi Shofner  of Lakeland, FL, David Livingston of Pelzer, Donna Worthington Livingston  of Morehead City, NC, and Deana Rhodes of Anderson; brothers, Dwayne Hensley of Poplarville, NC, Pete Hogan of Locust, NC; sister, Faye Frances Wilson Yow of China Grove, NC; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The service will be Thursday, May 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, with burial in Oconee Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 5901 Highway 187, Anderson, SC 29625.

SUE COOLEY

Bertha Sue Cooley, 86, of Anderson, died Monday, May 20, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Alexander A. and Martha Dora Holiday Cooley. She attended Bessie Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Peggy Rainey of West Pelzer, Katie Hanks of Honea Path; brother, Henry Cooley of Honea Path; special niece Brigitte Darby of Pelzer; and special nephew, Doug Rainey of Portola, CA.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

The families are at their respective homes.

CHARLES A. LAWRENCE

Charles A. Lawrence, 89, of Easley, died Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Rose Painter Lawrence,daughter; Libby Morgan, of Piedmont, son; Brain Keith Lawrence, of Belton, step daughters; Donna Yorty, of Anderson, and Shirley Cash, of Lyman.

He was a member of Forestville Baptist Church. He retired from the J P Stevens Parker Plant.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 beginning at 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Chapel of Westville Funerals. A Memorial service at 4:45 pm. Burial to follow at Forestville Baptist Church.

BRIAN ADAM SMITH

Brian Adam Smith, 62, of Easley, died Monday, May 20, 2019 at his home.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Adam and Dorothy Brehm Smith. Brian was employed at General Heating and Air. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by three brothers, Mark B. Smith of Powdersville, Kent A. Smith  of Alamogordo, NM, and Scott A. Smith, of Greer; and two sisters, Karen A. Clark of Anderson, and Cindy A. Gorrin of Simpsonville.

Memorial Services will be held in the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 24, 2019.

The family will receive friends following the service at the mausoleum.
