Farmers Market vouchers available

Anderson County residents over the age of sixty years, who meet certain income requirements will be able to apply for vouchers this week that can be used to purchase fresh produce at the county’s various participating farmers’ markets. Applicants with a low monthly income or who receive SSI or EBT benefits will be eligible for the vouchers, which will be good until October 15.
Residents must apply in person and must verify their identity, their age and their residency in the county. They must also verify their income and other qualifications. Those applying for homebound seniors must provide written permission from the senior, as well as proof of identity and income.
The successful applicant will receive twenty five dollars in coupons to be used in purchasing fresh, seasonal produce. South Carolina is one of several states which cooperates with the USDA to support this program, whish is designed to provide affordable nutritious food while also supporting the small farmer.
Those wishing to apply for the vouchers, which are issued on a first come, first served basis while they last, can apply starting Wednesday, June 5 at 8 a.m. at the Iva Farmer’s Market; June 6 at 8.am. at the Belton’s Farmer’s Market or on June 7 at the Anderson Farmer’s Market.
