ACSO Deputy shot at during pursuit – River Road

An Anderson County Deputy attempting to make a traffic stop on River Road Tuesday morning had shots fired at him during the pursuit. According to reports, at approximately 11:15 a.m., an Anderson County Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a gray Hyundai sedan on River Road near Interstate 85. The license plate of the Hyundai was ran and came back listed as stolen.

The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended on Iler Street near Anderson Road in Piedmont when a tire deflation device was successfully deployed.

The driver, Christopher E. Lewallen of Greenville was apprehended by an ACSO K9 and taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

During an investigation it was learned that the driver had been shooting at deputies during the pursuit and both the vehicle and license plate were stolen. Deputies located the handgun involved in the incident and it too was found to be stolen.

Lewallen and a passenger identified as Monica S Craigo, of Greer, were arrested and charges are still pending the ongoing investigation.
