The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a SCAM that has been circulating the community. The SCAM consists of callers requesting payment over the phone to avoid penalties for “missing jury duty” or for “having an active warrant”. Often times the caller will represent themselves as law enforcement officers and use actual names of deputies or employees at the Sheriff’s Office. According to GCSO Public Information Officer Lieutenant Ryan Flood, the scammers have “spoofed” the GCSO non-emergency # of 864-271-5210 in an attempt to further authenticate their SCAM. Lt. Flood states, “If you receive a call from this number and the caller requests any form of payment or personal information such as your social security number, please HANG UP and call 864-467-5300 to file a report.”
