The Town of Williamston and the Envision Williamston Main Street Program invite all area residents and businesses to participate in the 5th Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest which is now underway. Scarecrows will be on display throughout the town during October and mid November and awards will be given for a number of categories.
“We would like to have all of the displays up prior to Boo in the Park on Oct. 26th if possible,” said organizers Debbie Chapman.
Entry Forms may be picked up at Town Hall or printed from the Envision Williamston website at www.williamstonsc.us and should be returned when the form is completely filled out. Again, some public locations will be available on a first come first served basis.
The official display period is from September 27 through November 15. Registration deadline is Oct 15, to be eligible for judging. Awards will be given for all categories and there will be a “People’s Choice Award” for the overall best. Displays may be set up following registration and design approval. There is no entry fee. Displays may be placed throughout the town.
The contest is open to all ages, however each project entry must be supervised by at least one adult, 21 years of age or older. A panel of three judges with expertise in planning, decorating, and/or design will judge the displays.
Prizes will include 1st , 2nd and 3rd place awards for each category.
A “People’s Choice” Specialty Plaque will be voted on by the public. In addition, Certificates will be given for Most Creative and Most Whimsical.
Judging will take place by a panel of judges on or around the first week of November. People’s choice votes may be cast online either through the town website or the Envision Website.
