CHARLES BLACK

WILLIAMSTON – Charles Larry Black, 75, husband of Judy Ann Copeland Black, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Thomas Black and Eunice Reddmond Goodman. He retired from Capsco, Inc. and was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Kelly (Jan) of Williamston; daughters, Patti Owens (Todd) of Piedmont and Lynn Black of Belton; brothers, Roy Black (Odean) of Anderson and John Black (Violet) of Greer; grandchildren, Amber Lorah (David) of Piedmont, Sommer Heitz (Kyle) of Pelzer, Colton Kelly of Williamston; and great-grandson, Bruce Lorah.

He was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy and Ralph Black; sister, Jane Gaffney; and granddaughter, Marissa Owens.

Visitation was held on Friday, October 18, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service followed at 2:00 in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JANE MANGUM EVATT

The memorial service celebrating the life of Jane Mangum Evatt, 79, of Chapin, was held Monday, October 21, at the Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church, 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia. Private inurnment was held at Bush River Memorial Gardens.

She was born in Greenville, and died on October 14, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Claude Mangum and Grace Harbin Mangum.

She was a member of Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church,

She worked as an administrative assistant at a variety of non-profit organizations, but most of her life involved serving others.

Surviving is her husband, Parker Evatt; daughter, Katherine Evatt of Columbia; son, Alan Evatt of Irmo; brothers, James Mangum of Greenville, and Robert Mangum of Powdersville; and four grandchildren.

RODRIQUEZ “ROD” MATTISON

Rodriquez “Rod” Mattison age 22, of Williamston, passed away Sunday.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a graduate of Palmetto High School.

Survivors include his parents Rodney Mattison, and April Williams; one sister, Jelisa Williams; brother, Lavarious Mattison; and one nephew, Knox Harris all of the home; grandparents, Virginia Williams and Barbara Mattison Platt.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 19 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

The family is at 2513 River Road, Piedmont.

CAROLYN ANN MYERS WHITTED

Carolyn Ann Whitted, 79, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019.

Surviving is husband, James Charles Whitted; sister, Rachel Myers Ledford; brother, Charles Myers, both of Powdersville.

She was predeceased by her parents Roy and Ellen Myers.

At the request of Mrs. Carolyn no services are scheduled.

JUDY SEIGLER

WILLIAMSTON – Judy Elaine Bearden Seigler, 69, wife of William Marshall Seigler, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ashmore and Pauline James Bearden.

She is survived by sons, Darren Seigler and Greg Seigler of Williamston; daughter, Rhonda Blackwell of Pelzer; brother, Rodger Bearden of Anderson; sisters, Dannis Spearman of Pelzer, Joyce Smith of Greenville, Dolly Haralson of GA; and one grandchild.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The service was held Wednesday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

MARY LOUISE PARHAM EVANS

Mary Louise Parham Evans, 87, of Greenville, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Fleetwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Jasper Herman Parham and Mary Florence Hayes Parham.

She worked as a Medical Secretary before she retired. She was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Evans; daughter, Suzanne Knight of Easley; brother, Darrell Parham of Anderson; and four grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, October 22 at The McDougald Funeral Home.

Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

DORIS ELIZABETH MARTIN

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Bagwell Martin age 86 was held Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Mauldin Church of God, 411 E. Butler Road, Mauldin.

Interment followed in the M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

She was born in Gastonia, NC. She was the wife of the late Bishop Olin L. Martin, Sr. and a daughter of the late Mr. Willard Bagwell and the late Mrs. Mary Skipper Bagwell.

She was a member of the Mauldin Church of God, Mauldin. Survivors include one son, Olin L. Martin, Jr. of Aiken; one daughter, Juanita  Pickens of Piedmont; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

STEVE TONEY

Stephen Craig “Steve” Toney, 56, of Piedmont, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Albert Wallace Toney of the home and of the late Linda Ashley Toney.

He was formerly employed with Davis Mechanical and Auto Shack.

A graveside service was held at Greenville Memorial Gardens, Monday, October 21.

DOROTHY OWENS

Dorothy Alma Holliday Owens, 88, of Williamston, widow of Richard C.W. “Dub” Owens, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at her home.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Spears and Rose Caroline Creamer Holliday.  She was retired from Williamston Manufacturing and a member of Dry Oak Assembly of God.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Owens of Williamston and Karen Owens Beasley of Donalds; son, Barry Richard Owens of the home; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, October 23, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

MICHAEL SHAW

Michael Dennis Shaw, 63, of Belton, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019.

Born in Glendale, AZ, he was a son of Bobby Joe Shaw and step-mother, Diane Beasley Shaw of Donalds, and of the late Betty Sue Smith Henderson. He was formerly a high school history teacher in Dillon.

In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter, Megan Metz of Santa Ana, CA; sister, Donna Turner of Marion; brother, Kevin Shaw of Belton; and four grandchildren.

DR. J. JONATHAN JENNINGS

On October 21, 2019, James Jonathan Jennings passed away at Regency Hospital in Greenville. He was born to the late Lonnie Guy and Grace Cribb Jennings.

He is survived by his  wife Janis Jennings; sons, James Melton Jennings of Plainville, Connecticut and John Ashley Jennings of Williamston; sister, Sylvia Jennings of Spartanburg; and brothers, Charles Jennings of Tennessee, David Jennings of Illinois.

He served as a teacher, an assistant principal, principal, Director of Special Education and Director of Adult Education in Anderson School District 5 for over 30 years.

He was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 24, at Boulevard Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the church.
