Williamston Police Officer hit by vehicle while investigating accident

A Williamston police officer was struck by a sport utility vehicle Tuesday morning while investigating a single car wreck. The first wreck involved a single car off the roadway with no injuries at the intersection of Gossett Dr. and West First St. As the officer was outside his patrol vehicle investigating he was struck by the SUV. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital by Medshore Ambulance Service. State troopers investigated and sheriffs deputies assisted. (Photo by David Rogers)

Update –

According to reports, Officer Ronnie Drennon was investigating the accident on Gossett Drive around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when he was struck by another vehicle. Drennon had bruising but had no broken bones.
Drennon has been with the Williamston Police Department for seven years.
According to the police department, as of Tuesday afternoon, Officer Drennon had been released from the hospital with only minor bruising.
