Williamston to host MLK Breakfast Feb. 1

The Town of Williamston will host a Dr. Martin Luther King breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m.
The community is invited to come celebrate “A Fellowship of Reconciliation”.
The Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Breakfast will feature guest speaker, Juana S. Slade, CDM, CCF- Director, Diversity & Language Services-AnMed. Tickets are free but are required for admission.
Tickets are available at Town Hall and local churches and will be issued on a first come first served basis beginning this week. Table Sponsorships are available with proceeds going toward the MLK Scholarship Fund. Anyone who wishes to sponsor a table or would like details, can email Tony Brown, tony.brown@envisionwilliamston.com.
Winners of an essay contest for Anderson School District 1 students will also be recognized at the memorial breakfast. AnMed will host a free Health Fair in the banquet room following the event, which will be held in the Municipal Center Auditorium.

in MLK Essay contest
Anderson School District One students are invested to participated in a special essay contest honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. Winners of the contest will be recognized at the Town of Williamston Memorial Breakfast honoring Dr. King.
Four cash prizes will be awarded. Submissions are due by January 25th, 2020.
There will be three catagories: elementary school level, middle school level, and high school level. One winner per grade level will receive $50. and the overall winner will receive $100.00
All winners will receive breakfast tickets for themselves and their parents.  The theme is “A Fellowship of Reconciliation” and the criteria is to write a 250-to 300 word typed paper focused on the theme. (In your words tell us what you can do to restore fellowship among all races. What you are willing to do or stop doing to fullfill King’s vision of unity?)
Applicant must also video record or have someone video record them reading their essay using good lighting and in a noise free area. Clippings of the videos will be displayed on the big screen during the breakfast.
Submissions may be dropped off at Town Hall to Wanda Walker or emailed to Stacy Thurman at mrsstacydthurman@gmail.com or thurmans@anderson1.org with “MLK Essay” in the subject line. Please don’t forget that all papers need to contain the applicants grade, name and school. This may be placed at the top left of the paper.
