Eddie Tate, Jr.

Pelzer – Charles Edward “Eddie” Tate, Jr., 29, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of Tonya Lyle Smith and John R. Smith of Pelzer and Charles Edward Tate, Sr. and Laura M. Tate of Williamston. He was a welder by profession and a Christian.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by daughters, Aliyanna Jasmine Tate and Scarlett Edens, both whom he loved and adored, and their mother, Ann Vazquez Tate of Fountain Inn; siblings, Jordan “J.C.” Smith (Kristy Lee), Jonathan Lee “Ezra” Smith (Elizabeth Bradley), Kayley Faith Smith (Dominic Collins), Tanner Cade Smith (Catherine Mann), Zachary Tate (Lindsay Lecroy), all of Williamston; Brett Whitlock (Savannah), Koti Whitlock Keown (Justin), and Brandee Heath; and grandparents, Gwen and Edgar Burgess, Ken and Tina Massingale, Gary and Geneva Smith, Stan and Katie Gillespie, and Carole Jaskot.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be Sunday, February 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family at gofundme.com (Smith family emergency relief fund).

The family is at the home of his brother, Ezra Smith.

Mary Sue Bennett

Mary Sue Billingsley Bennett, 88, wife of Dealous Dexter Bennett, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Furman Alldre and Ruby Genell Palmer Billingsley. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Ray Billingsley of Pelzer; a granddaughter, two step-grandsons; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Saturday, February 15 at Bessie Road Baptist Church. The funeral followed with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home.

Bob McClain

Bobby Ray “Bob” McClain, 89, husband of the late Toni Lavette Hendricks McClain, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late John Mark McClain, Sr. and Nettie Mae Allison McClain.  He worked at JP Stevens Plant, Piedmont and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

He is survived by son, Ray Bunyon McClain of Belton; daughters, Susan Lavette Reid of Pelzer, Connie Dianne Evans of West Pelzer, and Joyce Elaine Head of Pelzer; sisters, Juanita Mills and Brenda McClellan; brothers, Rev. Jimmy O. “Champ” McClain of Campobello and Billy H. “Chub”  McClain of Piedmont; seven grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren. 

Visitation was held February 17 at Gray Mortuary. 

The service followed February 18, in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Jack Phillips

Jackie “Jack” Lee Phillips, 70, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Lutrell Eunice Wright Phillips. He was retired from Total Fire Protection.

 Survivors include son, Michael Shane Phillips of Belton; daughter, Sundra Meshell Fowler of Belton; brothers, Steve Phillips of Pelzer, Charles Phillips of Williamston, and Doug Phillips of the White Plains Community; sisters, Brenda Lusk of Williamston, Joyce Clark of Williamston, and Nancy Smith of Belton; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 18, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.

The family will be at the home of Sundra Meshell Fowler in Belton.

Betty Jean Roberts

Betty Jean Hill Roberts, 88, wife of the late Charles Greenberry Roberts, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late William and Estelle McCombs Hill. She worked at Mount Vernon Mill and in Palmetto Middle School’s Cafeteria. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Gene Roberts of Pelzer; daughter, Barbara Kay Hamilton of Powdersville; sister, Martha Lark of Piedmont; and one granddaughter.

 Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, followed by a memorial service at 2:00, in the mortuary chapel.

Doris Burton

Mrs. Doris Sizemore Burton, 79, of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Patewood Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Leola Rice Sizemore.

Surviving; a daughter, Sonya Gray of St. Louis MO; son, Charles K. Burton of Pelzer; Sisters, Delores Drummond of Chapel Hill NC, Linda Shell and Janice Clark, both of Greenville; brother, Frenchy Sizemore of McDonough GA; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, February 19, 2:00 pm, at Watkins Garrett and Woods Mortuary, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
