Local officials are encouraging residents to follow current guidelines in what they can do to slow or prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster recently closed a number of non-essential businesses and issued a “Work or Home” order that went into effect Tuesday (Apr. 7) at 5 p.m.
Captain Kevin Marsee of the Williamston Police Department said, “We know this virus is predictable therefore the spread of it is preventable.  We know what has occurred in other states with unprecedented numbers of cases overloading the hospitals. The governor has defined several reasons for which leaving your home is permitted.  We are requesting you to ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward before making the decision to be out.  And if so to use good judgement.”
Williamston Mayor Mack Durham said, “Staying at home and practicing social distancing seems to be working.” He encourages residents to “continue doing what is being recommended.” “Prevention is always the best cure,” he said “Practice preventive measures and not get it. That is the best way to what slow and prevent the spread.”
