John Mann

Fountain Inn – John Thomas Mann, 73, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Born in Cateechee, he was the son of the late Alvin T. Mann, Jr. and Mary Alice Tapp Mann. He was a farmer.

Survivors include daughters, Loren Cochran of Greenville, Lisa Granger of Greenville, Lindsey Mann of Rock Hill; son, Josh Jensen Mann of Fountain Inn; sisters, Karen Babb, Kim Campbell, and Kathy Homolash; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 a.m. on his property.

Mary Newby

Williamston – Mary Jean Ford Newby, 86, wife of Lakon “Mutt” Newby, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Thomas and Mildred Crawford Ford. She retired from Cushman Mill and was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School for sixty-plus years, sang in the church choir, and was leader of the King and Queen Club. She was a force and loved fiercely.

 She is survived by her daughters, Millie Harmon (Tim), Karen Saxon (Scott), and Tracie Hawkins (Mark) all of Williamston; sisters, Sandra Teague and Sarah Davis (Talmadge) both of Williamston; brothers, James Ford (Doyce) of Piedmont and Sammy Ford (Dolly) of Williamston; and grandchildren, Mary Catherine Saxon, Jay Saxon, and Reed Hawkins.

She was predeceased by eight brothers.

A graveside service was held on August 12, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Deloris King

Deloris Jean King, of Piedmont,  63, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 at her home.

Born in Portsmouth, VA, she was a daughter of Nancy Lee Hess King and the late Jack Leon King.  She was retired from Shriners Hospitals for Children.

In addition to her mother of the home, she is survived by siblings, John Randall King of the home, Diana Lee Bagwell of Berea, and David W. King of Piedmont.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

The family members will be at their respective homes.

Christina Lynn Clark 

Christina Lynn Clark, 54, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Born in Pelzer, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ernest William and Nell Whitehead McJunkin.

She is survived by her husband, Tony Clark; daughter, Kristin Clark; son, Brandon Clark; two grandchildren, two sisters, Joyce Newborn and Kathy Ross; and a brother, Ernie McJunkin.

A memorial service was held on August 9, at Pelzer First Baptist Church.

Gordon Neely

William Gordon Neely, Sr., of Pelzer, 93, husband of the late Sarah Stoddard Neely, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Born in Pelzer on August 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Herman and Nell Dowis Neely. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army and Navy before retiring from the SC National Guard as a Sergeant Major. He also served aboard the LST 824 and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Gordon was a retired supervisor with Kendall Company, a member of Lickville Presbyterian Church, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include sons, William “Bill” Gordon Neely, Jr. (Wesa) of Anderson and Joe Edward Neely (Carolyn) of Belton; daughters, Angela Neely Schwieger of the home and Sarah Beth Neely Sanders (Eddie) of Belton; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers, Jim, H.L., Robert, and Joe E. (USMC killed in Korea, March 2, 1951) Neely; and sister, Evelyn Neely Bryant.

A private graveside service will be held at Lickville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family respectfully requests those attending service to please wear masks and socially distance.

Mary Cothran

Mary Imogene Cothran, of Greenville, 88, formerly of Augusta Road, Pelzer, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Born in Ware Shoals, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas and Corrie Elizabeth Ridgeway Cothran. She retired from Sunshine Cleaners in Mauldin and was a member of Daventon Baptist Church.

She is survived by nieces, Tina Hazelett, Debbie Carmickle, Paige Kelly, Judy Clamp, Diane Tolson, Sue Henderson, and Gloria Culver; and nephews, Roland, Steve, and Tommy Cothran, Larry Darby, John and Phil Henderson, and Don Thompson.

She was predeceased by brothers, J.T., Charlie, and Wendell Cothran; sisters, Lila Darby, Annie Holliday, Sadie Henderson, Pally Watkins, and Betty Thompson; niece, Peg Price; and nephews, Bob Darby, Mike Holliday, and Randy Thompson.

A graveside service was held August 10, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605, or to the charity of one’s choice.

James Walter Bowman Sr. 

James Walter Bowman Sr. (“bogator”) passed away on August 8, 2020 from complications due to Covid-19. James was a resident of Williamston, SC and a native of Charleston, SC. He leaves behind his wife, Sandra Jean Bowman, his sons: James Walter Bowman Jr (Kelly Rae Bowman), Joseph Howard Bowman, and Jerry Paul Bowman; daughters: Sharon Lynn Jennings ( Milford Eugene Jennings) and Christine Denise Bowman (Kellie Elaine Childress),along with thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a great nephew: Kaden Johnathan Bond of the home. A private service has been scheduled for immediate family only.

 

Anthony John Rosena

Anthony J. Rosena, of Easley, formerly of Williamstown, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. He was the son of the late Anthony and Celia Rosena of Van Vorhiss, PA.

He is survived by two daughters, Cyndi Huff (the late Canton Huff) of Rittman, Ohio and Adrianna Piernick of Big Piney, WY; a son, John M. Rosena of Easley, six grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and a sister, Elizabeth Lomago.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois R. Rosena; two brothers, John and Willis Rosena; and two sisters, Mary Benjamin and Ruth Kittle.

Anthony was a Corpsman in the U.S Naval Reserve and later graduated from Pittsburgh Art Institute. He worked as a top designer for prominent Art Glass Manufacturers as Fenton Art Glass – from which he retired after 25 years. 

A graveside service were held, August 11, at the Monongahela Cemetery in Monongahela, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or National Alliance on Mental Illness. 

 

Louise Dana

Louise “Lou” Lecakes Dana, of Piedmont, 89, wife of the late George J. Dana, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Born in Astoria-Long Island, NY, she was a daughter of the late George Demetrius and Rosella Klinger Lecakes. She was of the Greek Orthodox faith.

She is survived by daughter, Debra Eischen of the home; son, Lt. Gen. Michael G. Dana, USMC Retired of Tucson, AZ; brothers, Christos Lecakes of Maggie Valley, NC and Socrates Lecakes of Voorheesville, NY; and  two grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held.

Linda Fleming

Linda Faye Chafin Fleming, of Honea Path, 73, wife of the late Jerry Lynn Fleming, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Reese E. and Grace Inez Sellers Chafin. She retired from Siloam Baptist Church as the church secretary.

Survivors include daughters, Lisa Faye Godfrey of Pelzer and Donna Kaye Suratt of Honea Path; sons, Donald Lynn Fleming and Ronald Lynn Fleming, both of Greenville; sister, Mary Ellen Adams of Anderson; brother, Jerry Chafin of Piedmont; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Bobby and Mamie Sue Chafin; brothers, Billy and Joe Chafin.

Dr. Robert Alfred Beckman

 Dr. Robert Alfred Beckman, of Anderson, 80, a chiropractor, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at his home, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was known as Bob to his friends and Dr. B to his patients.

A first-generation American born July 21, 1940, in East Northport, NY, to German immigrants Katherine and Eric Beckman. He grew up in Cocoa, FL and spent much of his adult life in Lake Park, FL, before retiring to Anderson.  Bob was a 1959 graduate of Cocoa High School, where he lettered in football and track, and a 1963 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic.  He was a chiropractor for more than 50 years in Riviera Beach and Lake Park, FL before retiring a first time to Anderson, where he purchased the practice of Dr. Young in Pelzer, SC and continued working until retiring a second time in 2015.

In Anderson, he was an   active member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Etta Hill Beckman of Anderson; siblings, Lilly Yoder of Cocoa, FL and Ron Beckman of Branson, MO; children, Mary Zohar of Lutz, FL, Robert Beckman, II of Lakeland, FL, Susan Wise of Piedmont, and Daniel Beckman of Culpepper, VA; and nine grandchildren.  

The family held a graveside service on August 11, at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Anderson.

Mary Ann Durham

Williamston – Mary Ann Lathan Durham, 84, wife of Harold Earl Durham, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020.

   Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late William “Bill” Lathan and Linnie Dane Bryant. She was the former owner/operator of The Flower Shop in Williamston and Net’s Flowers in Pelzer.  She was the Valedictorian of the 1953 Class of Williamston High School and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

   In addition to her husband, her family includes Mark Durham (Mindy) of Dorchester, Mack Durham (Sharon) of Williamston, Matthew Durham (Melissa) of Abbeville, Beth Durham Simpson (deceased), Jeff Simpson of Abbeville, Mickey Durham (Kathy) of Williamston; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Durham will lie in state Thursday, August 13, from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer and Friday, August 14, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
