Greenville & Western Railway Company, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Western Carolina Railway Service Corporation, will be performing major repairs to the J.P. Gossett Drive overpass in Williamston beginning August 24 through September 6.

Repairs will include the replacement of all damaged structural steel, concrete abutment crack repairs and a fresh coat of paint. The repairs are necessary due to excessive accumulated damage from many years of vehicular collisions.

It is anticipated that Gossett Drive will be closed for approximately 14 days, commencing the morning of August 24 and extending through the evening of September 6.

The road will be closed to the west at the intersection of Gossett Drive and SC Hwy 20 (West Main Street) and to the east at the west driveway entrance into Pecan Terrace Apartments near 110 Gossett Drive. Gossett Drive will remain open between Williams Street and Pecan Terrace Apartments and the adjacent sidewalk (and pedestrian tunnel under the railroad) will remain open to foot traffic for the entire length of Gossett Drive.

During this extended road closure, motorist should use Williams Street to Mill Street as a detour route around the closed section of Gossett Drive. Detour signage will be posted for the duration of the closure. The road will be opened earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule.

Greenville & Western Railway thanks the public in advance for their patience and understanding during this extended road closure.
