An incident on I85 this afternoon around 3 pm has northbound traffic backed up in all three lanes and traffic is being detoured into downtown and around the accident near Whitehorse Road.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the GCSO initiated a traffic stop on I-85 north near White Horse Road. During the traffic stop at least one occupant in the suspect got into a physical altercation with the two deputies on scene and a struggle ensued. During the course of the struggle a passing motorist collided with the suspects vehicle, injuring two deputies and at least two occupants in the suspect vehicle. Around this same time a another deputy, who was responding as backup collided with the suspect’s vehicle. That deputy was also transported to the hospital.
The collisions are being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Motorists are being advised to avoid I85 in that area.
