David “Moochie” Merritt is seeking re-election to the Anderson County School District One Board of Trustees. “As a Board Trustee, I have strived to maintain Anderson School District One’s position as one of the top performing school districts in South Carolina, while also being one of the most frugal,” he said.
“During my tenure, we have built or upgraded several state-of-the-art schools with student safety being a top priority. The latest examples are the new Palmetto and Wren Middle Schools. I have been a strong proponent of initiating learning programs that utilize the latest technology. Staying on the cutting edge of technology will provide a head start for our students as they continue their education or enter the workplace after graduation.”

Merritt also said the District has hired and retained the best educators in the state. “We have been able to accomplish this while having one of the lowest per pupil expenditures in South Carolina.”

“When making decisions I always put the students’ needs first while also considering the needs of the taxpayers. For example, during the pandemic I recommended that there be no tax increase in this year’s budget which would have further burdened the taxpayers.”

“I am proud to be a product of this district,” Merritt said. “My father and children graduated from District One schools and my grandchildren now attend as well. I consider it an honor to give back to the community that has given so much to my family and me. I would appreciate your support on election day.”
