Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina opened its new location at 297 Highway 20 (Pelzer) Thursday, Nov. 5. This is Goodwill’s first location in Pelzer and will include a retail store, donation center, and a Goodwill Job Connection. The facility will employ approximately 18 people.
In addition to providing gently-used clothing and other merchandise at affordable prices, Goodwill’s retail stores support programs to help people prepare for and find employment – a mission that is in particular demand right now. Job seekers in the Pelzer area will have access to a variety of employment services though Goodwill’s Job Connection at this site.
Goodwill Job Connections are a key piece of Goodwill’s mission to help people become independent through education and training leading to employment. At Goodwill Job Connections, job seekers can access free assistance to guide their job search, connect with potential employers and find permanent employment. Services include access to resources like computers and the Internet, fax machines, telephones, and job leads and referrals. A trained employment specialist is on site to assist individuals with their job search.
Goodwill Job Connections can also help South Carolina companies find reliable manpower and support services. Employer services such as job fairs, job listings and candidate prescreening and referral can help businesses find qualified associates to fill permanent employee positions quickly. In addition, Goodwill’s Business Support Services provide pre-screened and fully trained janitorial and landscaping crews as well as industrial subcontracting services.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina also provides certified training programs to help people start careers in Retail, Food Service, and as Certified Nurse Aides, Forklift Operators, or CDL-certified drivers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will took place at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, November 4th during a pre-opening reception. The store and Job Connection will open to the public at 9 am on Thursday, November 5th.
To maintain a safe shopping environment and aid in social distancing, the location will operate at reduced occupancy during the Grand Opening period. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available for all shoppers.
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina helps people become independent through education and training leading to employment. Last year, Goodwill placed 11,458 people into employment in the sixteen South Carolina counties it serves, through its job training programs and Goodwill Job Connection services.
