One of the largest and oldest trees in Williamston, is now gone. The tree, located at the corner of Academy Street and West Main St., has been a landmark, standing through storms and changing seasons. It took workers several days of trimming the huge limbs to finally get to the base part of the tree, and eventually get it on the ground. The last few cuts on the base resulted in pieces of wood over five feet in width. The tree was estimated to be over 100 years old. (Photo by Mike Gowan)
