Born December 30, 1947, he was a son of Margaret Virginia Elrod Durham of Piedmont and the late David Donald Durham. He graduated from Wren High School in 1965 and attained his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University four years later. He went on to secure his master’s degree from Clemson in 1970. While at Clemson, Mr. Durham was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps, and served a brief stint on active duty, before settling into his extended service as a member of the United States Army Reserves. He also served his community as the chairman of the Board for the Pelzer Rescue Squad, guiding the unit through difficult times as the county grew, and the health care industry continued to change. He directed and oversaw the squad’s expanded service, as they opened a second station in the Wren area, and then assumed the responsibility for the Powdersville area, when that privately operated unit failed. He held both positions at the time of his passing.
