Margaret Fortner

Margaret June Jennings Fortner of Piedmont, 80, wife of the late Jewell Clyde Fortner, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021.

Born in Ninety Six, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Rufus and Ethel Ivester Jennings. She retired from Reedy Fork Baptist Church and was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

 She is survived by a son, Robert Jewell Fortner of Greenville; daughter, Denise Harnesberger of Piedmont; brothers, Billy Ray Jennings of Honea Path and Charles Lee Jennings of the home; sisters, Betty Ellenburg of Anderson and Patsy Greer of Piedmont; and four grandchildren.

The funeral was October 30 at Piedmont Heights Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piedmont Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 36, Piedmont, SC 29673, or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Tim Kelly

Piedmont – Abner Timothy “Tim” Kelly, 78, husband of Mrs. Sandra Phillips Kelly, entered his eternal home, Monday, October 25, 2021.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Abner Feaster and Phedonia May Jordan Kelly.  He retired from Fiber Industries, Hoescht Celanese, and Greenville County. Tim was a dedicated member of Zion Assembly Church of God of West Pelzer and a United States Marine Corps veteran. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and being a Christian role model for his entire family. Tim was an adoring husband of 55 years, he reminded Sandra everyday how lucky they were to have each other.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by son, Mike Kelly (Stephanie) of Williamston; daughter, Kristy Kelly Landreth (Robby) of Piedmont; grandchildren, Brittany Haynes (Blake) of Williamston, TJ Kelly of Williamston, and Carsen Landreth of Piedmont; great-grandchildren, Mary-Blake and Foster Haynes; brother-in-law, Eddie Phillips (Myrtle); sister-in-law, Kay Barwick; special cousins, Faye Davis, Gail Beacham, and Jimmy Jones.

He was predeceased by brothers, Danny, Micky, and Larry Kelly.

He lived a full and happy life, surrounded by many who loved and cherished him. He will be missed greatly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Sherilyn Woodruff

Sherilyn Haskins Woodruff of Williamston, 74, wife of Daniel “Dan” Keith Woodruff, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021.

Born in Winter Haven, FL, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Gideon and Imogene Raiden Haskins.  

She owned Sherilyn H. Hill Insurance Agency, Inc. and began her career in insurance with State Farm, working in the Regional office in Florida. Several years later, State Farm began hiring female agents, and they offered her an agency in Orlando, making her the fifth female State Farm Agent in the state of Florida. 

When the agent in Williamston retired from State Farm, they offered Sherilyn the agency in Williamston, which she has operated since 1996. She was an acclaimed agent for more than 50 years.        Sherilyn was a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church in Orlando, the Nathanael Greene Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Greenville, a Dame Commandeur of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, and a former exotic animal trainer for Tiger’s Eye Productions in Orlando where she worked with the big cats.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Corey Woodruff (Jessica) and their children, Melvin and Austin of Buda, TX; sister, Susan Carter of Tavares, FL; brother, Jerry Haskins of Minneapolis, MN, and fourteen nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Williamston.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn and social distancing observed.

Rev. Marion Rhodes

Williamston – Rev. Marion Wesley Rhodes, 85, husband of the late Doris Seawright Rhodes, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Butler Eugene and Agnes Cooley Rhodes. Formerly employed with Cushman, he retired as a minister, and was a member of Belmont Church of God of Prophecy.

He is survived by his sons, James Rhodes of the home and Rev. Alan Rhodes (Rhonda) of Williamston; daughter, Pamela Murphy (Steve) of Anderson; sister, Marie Woodson; and brother, Butler Rhodes, both of Belton; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and special caregiver, Julia “Kitten” Elgin of Williamston.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Hall; and brother, Bobby Rhodes.

Visitation was held Monday, November 1, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Tabitha Cape McFarlane

Tabitha Anne Cape McFarlane of Travelers Rest, 31, wife of Chase McFarlane, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she is survived by her mother, Traci Cape Stewart and stepdad, Dewayne “FiFi” Stewart of Pelzer, her father, Timothy Cape and stepmother, Vicki Cape of Belton was currently studying Graphic Design.

She is survived by four sons, Tristen, Emery, Monroe, and Ronan; brothers, Jeffery Cape of Fountain Inn, CJ Cape of Greenville, Cody Stewart of South Pittsburg, TN, and Jamie Cape of Lyman;  sister, Alisha Cape of Belton; her nanny, Sandra Cape of Durham, NC.

She was an organ donor and gifted many a chance to live a healthier life.

A receiving of family and friends was held Nov. 1, 2021 at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 126 Randall Road, Easley.

Jack Golden

Pelzer – Jack Fulton Golden, 78, husband of the late Iler Jane Watson Golden, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Leonard Mauldin and Ruby Victoria McQueen Golden.  A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from GE in Greenville.  He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church as well as Pelzer Masonic Lodge and a Hejaz Shriner.

He is survived by daughter, Vicki Harris (Dale) of Piedmont; and grandchildren, Cody and Dean Harris.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Lee Golden; sisters, Helen Kellett, Cappie Forister, Geraldine Batson, and Vetta Johnson; and brothers, Ted and Sonny Golden.

Visitation was held Tuesday, November 2, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.  The service followed at 2:00 in the mortuary chapel, with burial in Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Betty Wallace

Pelzer – Betty Jo Watson Wallace, 89, wife of 63 years to the late Bobby Joe Wallace, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Evie Estelle Fleming Watson.  She was retired from Kemet and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pelzer.

She is survived by daughter, Charlotte Morgan (Bruce) of Woodruff; brother; Hayward Watson (Seniz) of Pelzer; Eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by daughters, Judy Garrett and Denise Poppe; brothers, Marion Christopher Watson and James Watson; and sisters, Virginia Ford, Edith Bracken and Edna Brady.

Visitation was held Tuesday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The service will be held Wednesday, November 3, at 3:00 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
