Mary Self

Mary Beatrice Hensley Self, 87, of Pelzer, wife of Joe Franklin Self, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021.

   Born in Elizabethton, TN, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Gladys Hensley. She retired from Plej’s and was a member of Donaldson Church of God.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Terry Self of Rock Hill; sister, Helen Cutshall of Fall Branch, TN; and brother, Gene Hensley of Knoxville, TN.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 29 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

James “Jim” Kugler

James Robert “Jim” Kugler, Sr., 62,  of Pelzer, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021.

Born in Sommerville, NJ, he was a son of the late Charles and Eleanor Louise Tobin Kugler. He was the owner of Dream Cars of the Carolinas.

   He is survived by his children, James Robert Kulger, Jr. of Cleveland, SC, Nicole Kugler Hartman of Cliffside, NC, and Brandon Michael Kugler of Pelzer; brother, Richard Kugler and sister, Susan Sopko; and grandson, Darrell Gradie Hartman.

A private memorial service will be held.

Dr. David Goley

Dr. David Ronald Goley of Williamston, 88, husband of Nanci Woodward Goley, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at his home.

Born in Rock Hill, he was a son of the late David and Cordell Nunn Goley. He was a retired chiropractor, a member of Whitefield Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jan Miller Yoho and Terri Miller Pruitt; grandchildren, Talbert Joseph Black, Miller Robert Yoho, and Taylor Aiken King; and great-grandchild, Asher Robert Yoho.

The family received friends November 22 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with a memorial service following in the mortuary chapel.

Louise Babb 

Louise Alma Eskew Babb of Pelzer, wife of Jimmy Lewis Babb, passed away Thursday November 18, 2021.

Born in Walhalla, she was a daughter of the late Ansel Eskew and Ruby Davenport Eskew Chapman. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and retired from Gerber Childrenswear.  

In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven grandchildren eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. 

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family

A cryptside service was held November 23rd at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Janice Ward

Janice Louise Elrod Ward of Donalds, 70, wife of Billy Ray Ward, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021.

   Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Walter Everett and Louise Lusk Elrod. She was formerly employed by Wellspring in Williamston.

    In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Timothy Ray Mullinax of Pelzer, and Christopher Lee Mullinax of Williamston; and daughter, Amber Brown of Hodges; brother, Jerry Walter Elrod of Anderson; and sister, Bettye Lefevre of Greenwood; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held November 23 at Gray Mortuary.

A cryptside service will be held Wednesday, November 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum chapel.

The family will be at the home.

Due to Covid-19, it is suggested that masks be worn and social distancing observed.

Kari Hathcock

Kari Nicole Medlock Hathcock of Pelzer,31, wife of Adam Cecil Hathcock, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Lollis Medlock and the late Ricky Eugene Medlock. She was employed with Bon Secours Mercy Health in the oncology department and was a certified pharmacy technician. 

   In addition to her husband and mother of Pelzer, she is survived by sons, Liam Andrew Hathcock, Lucas Oliver Hathcock, Samuel Henry Hathcock; brother, Brandon Kyle Medlock of West Pelzer; paternal grandmother, Eugenia Medlock of Honea Path; father and mother-in-law, James and Rhonda Hathcock of Charleston; brother and sister-in-law, Taylor Cox of Alabama; sister and brother -in-law Melissa Queen of Charleston; numerous nieces and nephews.

   No services are planned at this time.

   Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the family made payable to Adam and delivered to Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Elizabeth Owens

Elizabeth Frances Reeves Owens of Fountain Inn, 41, wife of Jeremy Lee Owens, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Arthur and Hellen Reeves of Fountain Inn. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Emily, Jeremiah, Isaac, and Zechariah Owens, all of the home; siblings, James Reeves of Spartanburg, Cathy Lay of Helena, MT, John Reeves of Fountain Inn, and Ben Reeves of San Francisco, CA.

Visitation was held Saturday, November 20 at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral following in the mortuary chapel.

Stan Welch

Pelzer – Stanton Wayne “Stan” Welch, 72, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Born in Gastonia, NC, he was a son of the late Carl Whitby “Pee Wee” Welch, Jr. and Elizabeth Dilling “Libby” Welch. A 1972 graduate of the Citadel, he worked as a journalist in the newspaper industry in South Carolina for 40 years. Stan was a lover of and a faithful servant to the power of the written word. He was an investigative reporter, and independent publisher and newspaper owner. He worked for the last 15 years as a journalist and columnist for the Williamston Journal. Stan loved his family and his country and had a real heart and concern for the downtrodden and veterans.

He is survived by his only son, Luke Welch of Savannah; siblings, Holly Durham of Pelzer, Mark Welch of Newry and Leslie White (Dan) of Pelzer; and his special lady, Bonnie Putzu of Charleston.

 A memorial service will be held at a later date.
