Judy Love Grubbs

Judy Louise Hembree Love Grubbs,  of Pelzer, 66, wife of Jerry Anthony Grubbs, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022, at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Hembree, Sr. and Martha Tessner Hembree.  She was a cosmetologist and a member of New Life Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Robert “Bobby” Earl Love, Jr. of Pelzer and John Grubbs of Six Mile; daughters, Martha Lee “Candy” Bradley of Easley and Marsha Ann “Mandy” Cox of Piedmont; sisters, Teresa H. Haines of Easley and Mary Hembree Tyndall of Laurens; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

   Memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of S.C., 2nd Floor, Suite 5, 229 Parson St., West Columbia, SC 29169 or to the American Heart Association, Upstate S.C. Regional Office, Attn: Memorial Donations, 156 Milestone Way, Suite A, Greenville, SC 29615.

The family is at the home of Bobby and Dana Love.

Sallie Waldrop

“Miss” Sallie Garrison Waldrop, of Greenville 104, wife of the late Harry Lee Waldrop, Sr., passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late John Westfield Garrison, Jr. and Beulah Mabel Lollis Garrison. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Piedmont.

She is survived by son, Harry Lee Waldrop, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Sara Katherine Ridgeway of Southport, NC; three granddaughters, two great-grandsons and “Bonus” daughters, Joanne Morgan and Jane Ayers Fleming.

A service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 13, at First Baptist Church, Piedmont. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 8 First Baptist Church Rd., Piedmont, SC 29673.

Kimberly Denise Miller

Kimberly D. Miller, of Williamston, 42, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

   Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Alvin Hendrix Miller, Jr. and Mary Lou Ragsdale Miller. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by husband, John Kainer of TX; daughter, Brinslee Miller of the home; sons, Matthew Rogers of the home and James Riding of Pendleton; sisters, Jennifer Miller and Kimberly France, both of the home; brother, Bill Greco of NJ.

 A memorial service was held January 9 in the Gray Mortuary Chapel.

Johnny Alexander

Johnny Ray Alexander of Pelzer, 81, husband of the late Marlene King Alexander, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late J.D. and Flossie Elizabeth Brown Alexander. He retired from Armstrong in Mauldin, was a member of Eastview Baptist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by son, Scott Alexander of Shelby, NC; daughter, Tammy Alexander of Greenville; step-daughters, Robin Starnes of Piedmont, Melissa Posey of Piedmont and Tammy Boyd of Spartanburg; brother, Ricky West of Greenville; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

 A graveside service was held January 7, at Greenville Memorial Garden with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastview Baptist Church, 120 Eastview Rd., Pelzer, SC 29669.

Edith Louise Looper

Edith L Looper, 71, of Piedmont, SC, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Janet Anderson of Granite Shoals, Texas.

She is survived by a son, William “Billy” Looper (Zana) of Piedmont; daughters, Tara Looper (of the home) and Pam Perry (Mark) of Fountain Inn; grandchildren, Abigail, T.J., Tori, Donna and Kendall.

In addition to her parents Edith was preceded in death by her husband William “Pete” Looper; sister, Beverly Wyatt of Kingsland, Texas.

A memorial service was January 9, 2022 at Bessie Road Baptist Church Piedmont, SC 29673 beginning at 6:00pm.

Harold Edward Talbot, Sr. 

Harold Edward Talbot, Sr., of Piedmont 89, husband of the late Jean Elaine Hart Talbot, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Born in Batavia, NY, he was a son the of late Edward James and Dorothy Buckman Talbot.  A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from General Motors in Rochester, NY, and was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Michael Talbot of Taylors, and his five grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Springs Baptist Church.  The service will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be held at a later date at Sandy Creek Cemetery, Murray, NY.

Memorials may be made to Mountain Springs Baptist Church, 410 Mountain Springs Road, Piedmont, SC 29673, or to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

Carolyn Barnes

Ridgeland – Carolyn Armetta McRorie Barnes, 82, formerly of Pelzer, wife of the late Joseph Franklin Barnes, Jr., passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Born in Charlotte, NC she was a daughter of the late Plummer Robert and Laura Pauline Johnson McRorie. She was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church and an alumni of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.

She is survived by daughter, Regina “Lynn” Barnes Smith (Kelly) of Bluffton; sons, Joseph “Joey” Franklin Barnes, III (Julie) of Piedmont and Christopher “Chris” Dale Barnes (Jennifer) of Williamston; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Lorraine Gagnon

Lorraine Joan Vachon “Memère” Gagnon,of Greenville, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Born in Biddeford, ME, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Bernadette Gagnon Vachon. 

Survivors include her children, Linda Fitzgerald of Elizabethton, TN, Tina DaMotta of Honea Path, Brenda Berman of Richmond, NH, Donna Edwards of Fountain Inn, and Gilbert Gagnon of Southampton, MA; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday, January 10, in the Gray Mortuary Chapel.

James Leonard

James Gaston Leonard, 77, husband of Linda Ann Cooper Leonard,  of Belton, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Saluda, NC, he was a son of the late Gaston Leonard and Margaret Juanita Black Leonard. He retired as a truck driver for Bi-Lo and was a member of Set Free Church in Powdersville. 

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Kay; sons, Rodney, Tim, and twin sons, Ronnie and Donnie Leonard; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held January 6, in the chapel at Gray Mortuary. the funeral followed.

Tammy McClain

 Tammy Denise Hudson McClain, of Piedmont,60, wife of Billy Joe McClain, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Mary Louise McCuen Hudson of Williamston and the late John Thomas Hudson. She was formerly employed with Boots and Thelma’s.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by children, Joey Thomas McClain, Mark McClain, Shane McClain, Anthony “Moe” McClain, Erin McClain Jaeger, Erica McClain Landrum, Tyler McClain and Jonathan McClain; siblings, Pam Craine, Tony Hudson, Todd Hudson and Kristie Hicks; and 11 grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
