Robert N. Wilson

Robert Nathan Wilson of Pelzer, 81, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Arthur Nathan and Verna May Hayes Wilson.  He retired from Sara Lee Bakery.

Survivors include daughters, Connie Faye Wilson and Sandra Renee Neely; brothers, Danny, Donald and Mike Wilson; grandchildren, Allison Paige Neely and Robert Seth Wilson.

No services are planned at this time.

Ruby Lipscomb

 Ruby Mae Bailey Lipscomb of Pelzer, 84, wife of the late Edwin Lewis Lipscomb, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022.

Born in Dawsonville, GA, She was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Dora Mae Tate Bailey. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Miller and Vickie Lipscomb, both of Pelzer; two grandsons and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held February 7, at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral following in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Cecil Woodson Holliday 

Belton -Cecil Woodson Holliday, 97, widower of the late Bessie Ruth Campbell Holliday, resident of Lickville Road, died Saturday February 5, 2022 at Carlyle Senior Care of Fountain Inn.

Born on December 10, 1924 in Greenville County to the late Charlie Q and Hettie Bell Woodson Holliday, he graduated from West Dunklin High School and served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Duke Energy as a supervisor at the Lee Steam Plant.

He was a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Kathy Teresa Dunlap and husband Rodney of Belton; his sister Shelby Jean Poore; his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sally Louise Cooley.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday February 15th at 2:00 PM from Cedar Shoals Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Donald officiating. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Tuesday February 15th from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the church.

Flowers are accepted and memorials may be made to Cedar Shoals Baptist Church, 1045 Cooley Bridge Road, Belton SC 29627.

Donnie Bawkum

Donnie Lewis Bawkum of Greenville, 70, husband of the late Susan Elaine Bawkum, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late John Lewis and Edna Virl McDonald Bawkum. A veteran in the U.S. Army National Guard, he retired as Sergeant first class, as well as from Steel Heddle.

He is survived by a sister, Lynn Williamson of Anderson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, followed by the funeral at 4:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be held at a later date at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Joe Allison

Piedmont – Billy Joe Allison, 68, husband of Vickie Ann Major Allison, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022.

   Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Noah and Jeannette Spence Allison. He worked in maintenance at the Piedmont Estes Plant and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Nicholas Joe Allison (Heather) and Timothy Eric Allison, both of Piedmont; brother, Johnny Budd Allison (Wanda) of Easley; and grandchildren, Kinslee Allison, and Farrah and Lilly Bates.

   He was predeceased by sister, Mildred Allison Stephens.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 7, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church. A memorial service will followed at 2:00 p.m.

Albert Nunn

Albert O’Neal Nunn of Piedmont, 92, husband of Evelyn Marcell Messer Nunn, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at his home.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Albert Z. and Ruth Cooper Nunn.  He retired from RC Bottling Co. and Albert’s Auction and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Wanda Sanders of Greenville and Jenny Nunn of Piedmont; sons, Ricky Staton of Piedmont, Lee Nunn of Simpsonville, Donnie Nunn of Belton and Ronnie Nunn of Greenville; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, at Gray Mortuary with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.  Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Greenville Children’s Hospital for cancer patients, 701 Grove Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.

Gloria Pitts

Gloria Annelle Burton Pitts of Pelzer, 92, wife to the late Rev. Earl Haskel Pitts, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

   Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Alton Everett and Mary Cooper Burton.  She was office manager of the Boys Home of the South.  She was a member of Washington Baptist Church in Pelzer.

She is survived by daughters, Joye Edmonds of Greenville, Earline Cox of Piedmont, and Debbie Moorer of Piedmont; brother, Leon Burton; and four grandchildren.

The service will be held Sunday, February 13, at 2:00 pm at Washington Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary.

Gene Boyce

Melvin Eugene “Gene” Boyce of Pelzer, 78, husband of the late Willie Louise Fields Boyce, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Melvin Clarence Boyce and Edna Mae Mattison Ellenburg.

   He is survived by son, Ricky E. Boyce of Williamston; and daughter, Rhonda Boyce Fields of Anderson.

   He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

   A graveside service was held February 5 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Sherry Kidd

Sherry Ann Minter Kidd of Piedmont, 62, widow of Samuel Dale Kidd, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Born in Martinsville, VA, she was a daughter of the late Wayne and Naomi L. Pace Minter.

Survivors include sons, Brian Minter and Joshua Kidd, both of Piedmont; sister, Donna Roberts; and one grandson.

The family received friends February 4 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

 The funeral service was held at February 5 in the mortuary chapel.

Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Judy Holliday

Williamston – Vera Mae Davis “Judy” Holliday, 82, wife of the late Larry Jackson Holliday, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

   Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Adger and Lizzie Mae Turner Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

   She is survived by her children, Debra Whittaker (James) of Greenwood and Steve Holliday (Eve) of Honea Path; brother, Bill Davis of Pelzer; grandchildren, Jessica Kirkman, Melissa Crenshaw, Christopher Whittaker, and S. Chase Holliday; and great-grandchildren, James, Rosalee, Walker, Evan, and Whitt.

   She was predeceased by sister, Odell Davis Morris; and brothers, Bud and Fred Davis.

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 8, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Betty Davenport

Betty Elaine Thomason Davenport of Williamston, 68, widow of Roger Michael Davenport and David Ragsdale, passed away Friday, February 4, 2022.

Born in Fountain Inn, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Thomason, Sr. and Betty Lucille Malone Thomason. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children, Pamela Elaine Stone of Williamston, Ronnie Thomason of Belton, Mickey Davenport of Hartwell, GA, Jessica Reed of Williamston, and Valerie Lamb of Pelzer; brothers, Frank Thomason of Hickory Tavern and Stevie Thomason of Simpsonville; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held February 8, at Gray Mortuary.

   A committal service was held Tuesday, February 15, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Lee Mitchell

John Leo “Lee” Mitchell of Pelzer, 68, husband of the late Connie Jane Hansen Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

   Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Charlie Ed and Callie Lovada Bryson Mitchell. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens Estes Plant and the City of Mauldin.

   He is survived by daughters, Shelly Hassen Center and Leigh Ann Mitchell, both of Pelzer; brother, Jerry Mitchell of Piedmont; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was February 5 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, February 11, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Robert Hayes

Williamston – Robert Lee “Moe” “Papa Moe” Hayes, 95, husband of the late Helen Lucille Hall Hayes, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Reece Newton and Rosie Lee Keenen Hayes. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from Cryovac, and was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

He is survived by son-in-law, Jimmy Bear of Williamston; grandchildren, Jason Bear (Jaimee) and Dawn McConnell (Michael); great-grandchildren, Amber Hall, Seth, Saylor, and Ben Bear, T.J. Reed, Luke Dobbins, Matthew Garrison, and Zavy Bear; and great-great-grandchild, Nolan Smith.

He was predeceased by daughter, Carol Bear; sons, Billy R. “Gabby” and Terry Lee Hayes; and grandson, Jamie Hayes.

   Visitation was held Sunday, February 6, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Pelzer Church of God, followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Jeanette Caylor

Martha Jeanette “Jan” Foxx Caylor of Greenville, 78, widow of James Leonard Caylor, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Luther Lenoir and Ollie Blanch Knight Foxx.  She retired from Michelin.

Survivors include sons, Gregory Duwayne Williams of Easley and Larry Scott Williams of Taylors; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Phillip Henderson

Phillip Ervin Henderson of Pelzer, 71, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Claude L. and Hazel Evejean Prater Henderson. He was a member of Waycross Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Phillip “PJ” Ervin Henderson, Jr. of Pelzer; sister, Patricia Joan Henderson of Greenville; two grandchildren and one step-grandson.

The family received friends February 6 at Waycross Baptist Church with a memorial service following at the church.

Derick Ruggiero

Derick Daniel Ruggiero of Belton, 72, husband of Gail Higgins Ruggiero, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

   Born in Hartford, CT, he was a son of the late Gladys Agnes Baskiewicz Ruggiero.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Daniel Ruggiero of Rainbow City, AL; daughter, Crystal Ruggiero of Bristol, CT; step-daughters, Crystal Casey of Alpharetta, GA and Carrie Rowe of Athens, GA; sister, Paula St. Germain of Manchester, CT; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Judy Ann Copeland Black of Williamston, 74, wife of the late Charles Larry Black, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Born in Williamston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Jackson and Vadie Jewel Campbell Copeland. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, Michael Kelly of Williamston; daughter, Patti Owens of Piedmont; brothers, Jackie Copeland of Seneca and Ronnie Copeland of Iva; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
